The Generations Defined    
Let’s face it — Millennials are
taking over the workplace.
Millennials represent roughly 50% of the
workforce, and by 2020, we can expect that
number to increase to a whopping 75%.
Worldwide and in the US, millennials are the largest genera4on yet ~ 2.3 billion strong. 
Half would rather have no job than to 
 have a job they hate, and 3 out of 5 will  
switch job in 5 years. 
7 out of 10 think they need “me 4me” 
 at work, and 4 out of 5 demand 
recogni4on for their work.

dominated lesser-paying occupations

and see gender bias as an issue
•  want a job they enjoy that provides
security and flexibility
•  Having children will make it harder for
them to advance in their job or career 
Millennial Librarians
have a more diverse background, and are
more technically savvy than predecessors
more flexible and assertive in their workplaces
are poised to take over a graying occupation
while staying determined to revolutionize the
career as they advance
are generally regarded as being more open-
minded and liberal (supportive of gay rights
and equal rights with minorities)
Millennial Beliefs
Millennials are more accep4ng of gay rights,  live‐in arrangements for couples,  
Mothers working outside the home, and inter‐racial marriages.

  • 3. Let’s face it — Millennials are taking over the workplace. Millennials represent roughly 50% of the workforce, and by 2020, we can expect that number to increase to a whopping 75%.
  • 6. • over-indulged, over- nurtured , over-parented • stay longer with their parents • stronger family ties • stay in school longer • have high expectation as employees • receptive to new ideas, change in environment, work challenges Millennials as children of Baby Boomers
  • 7. • tech-savvy • street smart • lifestyle centered • independently dependent • Informal • stimulus junkies • skeptical • impatient Millennial personality (Peter Sheahan, 2005)  • family-centric • achievement- oriented • team-oriented • attention-craving Common traits:

Millennial Women •  Millennial women outpace men in educational attainment •  but they remain concentrated in female- dominated lesser-paying occupations •  believe work-life balance is achievable and see gender bias as an issue •  want a job they enjoy that provides security and flexibility •  Having children will make it harder for them to advance in their job or career

Millennial Librarians have a more diverse background, and are more technically savvy than predecessors more flexible and assertive in their workplaces are poised to take over a graying occupation while staying determined to revolutionize the career as they advance are generally regarded as being more open- minded and liberal (supportive of gay rights and equal rights with minorities)
