Adobe® Captivate™ is a rapid content creation development tool that has quickly grown in use and popularity in the eLearning market. This powerful tool offers many productivity benefits to its users that allow for a rapidly-enriched learning experience. Some of the benefits of this SCORM- and AICC-compliant tool are its time-saving features that support great screen recording capabilities, branching functionality for added interactivity, it is easy to reskin/customize the interface using Flash, offers more flexibility in development than other rapid tools, integrates with Twitter and offers a reviewing tool where a user can post notes/comments on pages they are viewing for easy feedback dissemination to developers. Also, it offers localization support with XML export and import functionality; export captions to a text or XLIFF file to then import the translations into the original project file. - Julie:So we’ve talked about shortening the development cycle. Let’s talk about Captivate’s enhanced flexibility.Captivate has long been known for it’s screen recording and branching capabilities. First, let’s talk about branching. Branching means that the path a learner takes through the program is determined by responses made to questions. It is an excellent method of individualizing learning materials. Branching may be made on the basis of correct answers to a question, wrong answers to a question, an option selected by the learner, or based on the learner's experience, job category, level, or any other category.Branching view so you can see all your slides at a glance. This for development so you know where your’e going and where everything is branching. Articulate can jump from slide to slide but much more difficult for the user to navigate.
- Screen recording is likely what Captivate is known best for. It does a fantastic job of capturing clicks and movements so it’s a great tool for software simulation. Erhan, can you tell us a little more about it?

- Julie:Custom animation filtering sounds pretty cool. Erhan I’m going to toss this over to you to talk about from the development perspective.

- Julie: One of our sweet spots is localization, so we’re pretty excited about how Captivate supports localization and translation. Localization means translating content into another language, but culturally and regionally adapting it to be appropriate for your audience. Idea here is that the captivate project is built, export text into XML, have it localized and reimport it into the xml.

- Julie: so we mentioned earlier that Captivate is a great branching tool. Branching is easier to implement in captivate rather than in action script.You can create question slides and specify different paths for right and wrong answers. This is the most straightforward method of adding branching. You can add click boxes and choose different paths if users click inside the click box or outside the click box. Click boxes have the same answer options as question slides, but can be incorporated into existing slides instead of requiring their own slide. You can add text entry boxes and create different branches if users enter the text correctly or incorrectly. Text entry boxes are very flexible and can be used in many creative ways. For example, they are an excellent way to simulate data entry in an application. You can add buttons and create different paths for when the user clicks the button or clicks outside the button. Buttons are a quick way to add branching and interactivity to your projects in a way that is comfortable for many users.
