Don’t Believe the Experts ! “ That’s an amazing invention, but who would ever want to use one of them?” (US President Rutherford B. Hayes, after participating in a trial telephone conversation between Washington and Philadelphia in 1876). “ Television won’t be able to hold onto any market it captures after the first six months. People will soon get tired of staring into a box every night (Darryl F. Zanuck, Head of 20 th Century Fox, 1946)
Don’t Believe the Experts ! “ The horse is here to stay, but the automobile is only a novelty, a fad” (President of Michigan Savings Bank, 1903, advising Henry Ford’s lawyer not to invest in the Ford Motor Company – disregarding the advice, he invested $ 5,000 in stock, which he sold several years later for $ 12,5 million). “ I think there is a world market for about five computers (Thomas J. Watson Sr., Chairman of IBM, 1943)

Is there a difference between Creativity and Innovation ?
Creativity- New ideas, originality Innovation- takes further the new idea through keeping in view a satisfied customer
Learn how to harvest, tailor, and shape ideas to make them more practical.
Teach Yourself and your students that there is absolute necessity of applying the creative process continuously to every strategy, process, assumption, product, and practice, in our rapidly changing world.

Three Components of Creativity Expertise Motivation Creative Thinking Skills Creativity
Three Components of Creativity Expertise Motivation Expertise is, in a word, knowledge – technical, procedural, and intellectual An inner passion to solve the problem at hand, leads to solutions far more creative than do external rewards, such as money. Creative thinking skills determine how flexible and imaginatively people approach problems. Creative Thinking Skills

How do you rate yourself ? Motivate yourself to become increasingly more effective. Effective teaching –
Motivate yourself to become i n c r e a s i n gl y more effective. Effective teaching –
Be passionate. Love your Teaching. Good teachers practice their craft not for the money or because they have to, but because they truly enjoy it and because they want to. Effective teaching –
Strive to be at your best – and improve it continuously – Plan to be at the top of your field - continuously reading to be at the leading edge. Devote time to prepare materials to further enhance the quality of instruction. Effective teaching –
Identify and try to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Be open, be willing - to learn, - to assist, - to consult, to prove that you can improve. Effective teaching –
Improve certain related skills - listening, questioning, being responsive etc., Effective teaching –
Accept mentoring between senior and junior faculty, and ensure that it succeeds. Encourage teamwork, in every area of academic, co-curricular activities. Effective teaching –
Be flexible, experimenting, and having the confidence to react and adjust to changing circumstances. Attempt for a creative balance between being an authoritarian dictator on the one hand and a considerate person on the other. Effective teaching –
Be caring, nurturing, and developing the minds and talents of your students. Motivate your students – to learn – to learn how to learn - and doing so in a manner that is relevant, meaningful & memorable. Effective teaching –
Please remember that each student and class is different . Ensure that you pay individual attention to developing their skills – more particularly the oral and written communication skills [more particularly of the quiet students], along with the presentation skills. Motivate students to excel – surely, not at any cost – emphasize on being human, values based, respecting others, etc. Effective teaching –
Pay particular attention to your STYLE of teaching. Remember that teaching is a Performing art. Don’t remain either seated or standing at some fixed point. Move freely – move away from the prepared notes. Try to look at every student and not merely at some select students. Try to gauge the understanding and reaction of as many students as possible to your presentation. Effective teaching –
Some institutional arrangements for rewarding effective teaching, along with remedial measures for poor teaching through training and development programs – micro teaching, peer evaluation, evaluation by senior faculty, etc. Effective teaching –

Creativity is walking alone 1= Man who follows the crowd, will usually get no further than the crowd. The man who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one else has ever been before. 2 = Creativity in living is not without its attendant difficulties, for peculiarity breeds contempt. And the unfortunate thing about being ahead of your time is that when people finally realize you were right, they’ll say it was obvious all along. 3 = You have two choices in life: you can dissolve into the mainstream or you can be distinct. To be distinct, you must be different. To be different, you must strive to be what no one else IS, but you can be...

Some points about motivating learners 1] Intrinsic motivation is better than extrinsic motivation. 2] Goal setting is an important motivational aspect of learning. 3] Successful experiences are important motivators. 4] Feedback about one’s progress can be effective motivation. 5] Reward rather than punishment is a better motivation for learning. Continued - - -
6] Success generally increases the level of aspiration and achievement of the learner. 7] Teacher’s expectation of the learner’s performance influences the latter achievement. 8] The learner must be active and not passive for maximum learning. 9] The learner must repeat or practice what he/she has learned in order to remember. 10] The learner must see the significance, meanings, amplifications, and application that will make a given experience understandable.
Personal qualities of Teachers that ensure Effective Teaching 1. Pleasing personal appearance, manners, courtesy, pleasant voice 2. Intelligence, emotional stability, and self control 3. Sympathy, kindness, helpfulness, patience 4. Integrity, trustworthiness, honesty, loyalty 5. Flexibility, creativity, resourcefulness 6. Sociability, friendliness, cooperativeness 7. Fairness, impartiality, tolerance 8. Sense of humor, cheerfulness, enthusiasm
Whether you are a new teacher or a seasoned professional • Identify and practice truly effective teaching strategies that can make teaching more fun and enjoyable both for yourself and for your students. • There is still a need to learn different strategies in teaching. Teachers should always remain and view themselves as ACTIVE SOCIALIZATION AGENTS capable of stimulating… Improving student motivation to learn.
