2. Is Down syndrome an
infectious/contagious?
 Down syndrome is not an infectious or a
contagious. You are born with Down
syndrome.

3. Down syndrome symptoms
•Down syndrome people don’t all
have the same symptoms; some can
have different syndromes to others.
•Heres a list of all the
syndromes of Down
syndrome
•A flat facial profile
•An upward slant to the eyes
•A short neck
•Shaped ears
•Whites spots on the iris of the eye
•A single crease on the palm of the hand
•Smaller than average size
•Big toes widely spaced
•Poor muscle tone (called hypotonia)
•Joint looseness
•Broad feet with short toes
•Learning disabilities.

4. What causes Down syndrome?
 Chromosomes come in
pairs and if you have three
copies of chromosome 21
then you will have Down
syndrome.

5. Is Down syndrome spread by
vectors?
 No, Down syndrome is not spread by vectors.
Mosquitoes, fleas, lice, ticks and flies are the
most important vectors of disease to humans.

6. How is Down syndrome
treated?
 You can’t treat Down syndrome; you are born
with Down syndrome.
 At a early age, when they are babies or
toddles you can take them to a special school
so they can get use to what it will be like
when they grow up.

7. How can Down syndrome be
prevented?
 There is no way to prevent Down syndrome;
you are born with Down syndrome.
