Overview of progress in smart
        school now
•In 1996: the Ministry of Education planned the Smart School
concept based on critical and creative teaching and learning
processes

• Smart school as 1 of the 7 flagship application of MSC
• Transform Malaysian education to fulfill vision 2020
• a conducive learning environment
• Uses ICT in education –tools-
The implementation plan of smart school was goes through four waves of plan.

1. Pilot plan was started on 87 schools around
   the Malaysia from year 1999 – 2002.

 2. On 2002 – 2005,MSC starts the post-pilot plan
where they repair the first trial.

         3. In 2005 – 2010, all schools was transferred to
             digital transformation.

            4. After 2010 – 2020, Malaysia hope the technology becomes
an integral part of the nation’s learning process.
In the second wave (2002 – 2005), some enhancement efforts in
reflect of all the challenges:-

•The government’s school computerization project aimed at
equipping all school with PCs and computer lab, and School Net
project which provides connectivity to all schools; and

•Combination among PPSMI and SSIS(smart school integrated
solution) will strengthen teaching-learning in the classroom
starting 2005 until 2010, the roadmap has been developed.
The roadmap comprises five key components:-

•Identify the stakeholders as customers
•Identify the roles of different stakeholders and customers
•Performance-based management for the implementation of
the roadmap
•Set clear attainment targets and fixed timelines from 2005 to
2020
•Concretise a Malaysia Smart School scenario in 2020
1. Lack of manpower in handling the technical problem

   • Some schools do not have enough technician

2. Training

   • New teachers lack of intensive training
   • Teacher as primary deliverer must have intensive training in
using ICT and also must have full readiness for the
   implementation of Smart School
3. Huge investment on facilities

   • The costs and maintenance fees for the facilities are high
   • need many high-tech facilities

4. Smart School courseware was found to be under-utilised

   • Teacher lack ICT knowledge and not comfortable with the
     use of hardware and courseware
   • Prefer traditional way of teaching which is chalk and talk
