K

UWAIT LAND FORCES BASE,
Kuwait – Senior leaders from the
2nd ABCT, 4th Inf. Div., met with
their Kuwaiti counterparts for a partnership
meeting at Kuwait Land Forces Base, Kuwait,
Dec. 23.
The meeting allowed the two sides to go
over the importance of continuing their
long-standing partnership and speak about
future operations that will take place in the
region.
“What we want to do is to bring in
the senior leadership, have a discussion,
get it approved and then move out with
the orders,” said Maj. Timothy Gatlin,

brigade fire support officer, HHT, 2nd STB,
2nd ABCT. “We want to become more
comfortable with the Kuwaitis planning
process and help them become more
comfortable with ours to make this process
smoother.”
This meeting was just the first of what
Gatlin, also the event organizer, hopes will
become a routine synchronization meeting
before combined exercises next year.
“I think what we’re probably going to try
to do is sit down and have another discussion
with the Kuwaitis and maybe schedule
something for late May or early June that
forecasts more events through the end of
the year,” said Gatlin. “I think the next step
for us is to start to have our battalion level
operations officers meet with the Kuwaiti
brigade level operations officers on a more

frequent basis.”
The Kuwaiti’s discipline and care for their
country stood out during the meeting.
“It was reassuring to see how focused the
Kuwaiti land forces are on training,” said
Col. Omar Jones IV, commander, 2nd ABCT,
4th Inf. Div. “They’re very passionate about
the defense of their homeland and training
every day to make sure their forces are ready
to execute that mission.”
Jones also said seeing the Kuwaitis
dedication to their profession inspired and
encouraged him to seek more opportunities
to interact with them.
The “Warhorse” brigade will have more
discussions with their Kuwaiti partners in
the upcoming weeks to go over possible
partnership opportunities.
