   First 10 Amendments to the United States
    Constitution.

   Finalized on December 15, 1791.

   First introduced by James Madison.
   Protect the natural rights of a person’s liberty
    and property.

   Guarantee a certain amount of freedoms.

   Limits the governments power.
   Congress can’t make laws from keep you
    from practicing your choice of religon.

   Congress can’t restrict what you want to
    write/publish in a book or newspaper.

   Congress can’t stop you from holding a
    peaceful protest against something.
   Congress can’t keep people from having
    weapons in order to defend themselves.
   You have the choice to not let soldiers live in
    your home, except in a time of war.
   No one can search you, house, or any of your
    property unless the courts have a reason to
    think that you have committed a crime.
   You can’t be tried for any type of serious
    crime without a Grand Jury whether or not
    there is enough evidence.

    If you are found not guilty then you can’t be
    tried for the same crime even with a different
    jury.

   You have to be convicted by a jury in order to
    receive any type of punishment.
   If arrested you have the right to a speedy
    trial.

   You can’t be kept in jail without being tried
    for a crime.
   You have the right to a jury if you are
    involved with a civil case.

    ◦ A civil case is between two people rather than
      between you and the government.
   The government can’t set an unreasonable
    bail or fine amounts.

   The government can’t order cruel and
    unusual punishment.
   These rights are listed in the Constitution,
    but are not your only rights.
   Anything that the Constitution doesn’t say
    should be left up to the states and people.
