Introduction
We are required to construct a project that serves a specific purpose
chosen by ourselves. There are five purposes which are, recreation
area,study enchancement area,food and beverage(dining area),rest
area and commercial area(food and beverage are not included). After
that ,students need to chose a site or area which is not larger that 30m
x 30m.Student should do research and analysis before deciding of the
construction project. For our group,we have chosen the empty space
located at Block E level 2 (balcony). We decided to propose it as a
rooftop café (food and beverage).
Site Analysis
This site is located at Block E level 2 balcony. We chose this site is because this area is
abandoned and it is unused for long time
3m
15.5m
27m
This site is about 27m x 15.5m.It is a big empty balcony with only a partial roof
beside it.In the site, there is railing around the area and also a 3 meters extended
roof from the right side of the site. There is a car park and a sport court located
in south direction.Towards the west part, there is a view of the opposite roof
terrace of the same level.Towards the east part, there are some large and tall
trees and also residential area. Taylor’s lake is located in south-east direction.
Circulation
The site is easily accessed. There is no specific circulation of peoples because
there is nothing attract people to come to this site as it is a empty area.People
can access via the stairs from Block E level 1 and Block E level 3, lifts ( all
levels from Block E ), the Divisional Office of Education, and the Divisional
Office of Business and the central avenue that connects Block B, C , D and E.
Entrance
 Only one entrance
 Bigger space on the left
side of the site
 No congestion
Right side of the site
 Small roof extending 3
meters long
 View of residential
buildings
 Less shading place
 View of residential
buidlings (new)
 Flat concreate floor
Understanding of Dining Area
 dining area - an area arranged for dining; "they put up tents for the dining
area"
area - a part of a structure having some specific characteristic or function;
"the spacious cooking area provided plenty of room for servants"
 A place where people can have/find their meals, foods or beverages and
also it is for commercial purposes.
Suggestion and Proposal
Resting Area
Resting area is one of the suggestion as our site is also suitable to do so.
Students can stopby and take a rest without any disturbance as the site is a less
passerby area. Students who wish to take a sleep can also stopby. This will give
more advantages for students who work late or even overnight in campus.
Commercial
Sports equipment shop is also one of our consideration in this project as our site
is near the sports court in campus.Students can take advantages to buy the sports
equipment in short distance from the sports court. The prices is cheaper than the
other shops outside as it is located in campus and also most of the customers
would be students.
Concept
Our aim is simple, it is to change the uninteresting and unused area
into a crowded place that everyone know and also for relaxation
purposes. The design of the rooftop café is unique and most importantly it
is comfortable that is suitable for rest and relaxation.
The design is environmentally friendly and it is closer to nature as
it will be plants and small trees planted in the site or in the café.This
rooftop café would open 24 hours 7 days a week as it can give benefits to
architecture students in Block E for relaxation and also release their
tension in their works.
It is also a place where they can escape themselves from busy
schedule and a place to communicate among themselves to allow them
improve their relationship. This place is also suitable for having
discussion(assignment/project),meeting or even an intimate for couples.
All the furnitures and elements will be eco-friendly and also
comfortable .
comfortable environment

A simple and moderate size cashier counter
A coffee machine which make
sure our customers get the
finest coffee in campus.
Lighting
Comfortable dim lights
Flowers and Grass
Beautiful pots of flowers
and grass
Flooring
Wooden deck will be used
Furnitures
Comfortable chairs and moderate size table
Advantages
 Students and staffs are able to get food and drinks in short distance.
 Quite and peace environment.
 Architecture students don’t need to worry about food especially in
midnight.
 Nice view with fresh air.
Disadvantages
 Less people passby.
 Prices might higher than the other.
Rough sketch
Authority Requirement and
Documentation
Authority requirements
 Application for landuse conversion
 Building plan submission/approval
 Requirement during construction
 Completion of works and handing over
 Works related to utility/services
 Operation and maintenance (O&M)
 Requirement of Department of Environment
Documentation
 Drawings
 Design reports
 Construction records
 Operation and maintenance manual
 Maintenance, Repair and Upgrading records
 Performance records
Submittal requirements
 Submission for Land Subdivision
 Submission for Building Plan Approval
Conclusion
It is a simple and eco-friendly design that can brings relaxation to
students and staffs in campus. We believe that students and staffs can get
benefits from the project. They can chose to have their meal or take a break here
rather than walk to the commercial block in campus. We also believe that this
project may turn a abandoned and empty area into a place where everybody
knows and crowded.
This project may create more business in campus and also improve the
social issues.
