2. Audience and objectives
Create a broad community of practitioners and
researchers, drawing upon the collaboration with planners
and decision-makers, to accelerate development of
professional and institutional capacity for adaptation.
Users will find accessible information and tools to guide
development of adaptation projects
Users will be able to upload their experiences, sharing
successes (and challenges), to reflect and learn from each
other.
The ultimate aim of the platform is to promote adaptation as
a process of socio-institutional learning, supported by
shared information on present and future risks.
3. + Questions we have tried
to explore
In what ways can we represent
both high quality scientific and local knowledge?
How do we build and link communities of practise?
How do we build trust and break down barriers in sharing?
How do we encourage this knowledge to be used?
How do we support continuous learning?

38. Principles
Adaptation is
a complex process of socio-institutional learning
recognises often competing stakeholder goals and processes
uses information at various levels and in many ways
The future is uncertain, but we know enough to act
Adaptation strategies and actions should be robust against a
wide variety of future conditions; rather than assuming we can
predict future impacts and provide climate proofing measures.
The value of information is in
reducing the uncertainty in making a decision
integrating climate change and climate change adaptation in 'good
enough' practice in risk management
42. + Why weADAPT?
High quality content, with a sustainable model
Credible information
Rigorous editing
Relevant to practitioners, researchers, planners and policy makers
Accessible – high and low bandwidth
Practical – linking to networks on the ground e.g. AfricaAdapt,
Sumernet
Provides decision-making support
Downscaled climate data and guidance – coming soon!

44. Get in touch
We are always responding to requests for new
features to allow networks to use their site space
in their own ways
We are also seeking Knowledge Partners who
wish to take over topic areas or create new ones
and manage them for their own networks

Notas del editor
Demand has been identified through stakeholder consultation in many workshops over the years. The are being addressed in a strategic way with partners.
Articles are organized into key themes which are managed by SEI and external partners in each area of expertise.
What have we tried to improve? Multiple logos, incentives for contribution
Better interface for sharing and editing etc
ToRs for Editors Ownership vs quality control
Self organising links – facilitating learning process, avoiding redundancy and unecessary replication – increased collaborative opportunities Tools: Adx, CIP, Vulnerability and adaptation assessment, paticipatory apporaches Projects: GE Organisations: Institutional barriers – logos, external urls People: trust, ownership, quality control, access, mushrooming, increasing capacity to manage own networks, Initiatives: CBA, Asia Pacific
Links networks that would not otherwise be connected.
Multiple logos in placemarks etc….also adding content individually build profile of organisation as a by-product without the user doing anything special (just via their link to their organisation).
Members are suggested based on common interests or contributions
Organisation profile is enhanced by individual contributions
User-friendly urls – all data is linked in to all other relevant content including articles, projects, individuals, partner organisations and other initiatives and networks
Create more adaptation stories using spatial data
Automated linking to other major global platforms – e.g. CIFOR
Downscaled climate data is being added in to weADAPT from the Climate Information Portal (University of Cape Town) through a CDKN funded project. Implemented by end October 2012.
Despite the fact that there are a proliferation of portals out there, why would people use weADAPT? Balance between cutting edge technology while maintaining capacity building ethos for developing country contexts.
