  1. SPEAKER NOTES: There are some hidden slides within the deck (flagged in speaker notes) that you can use for background information or unhide if you have extra time and want to expand some of the topics.
  2. Hello, my name is______________. Today we are going to talk about how the hosting community can leverage Windows SharePoint Services to provide customized collaboration applications to small and medium-sized businesses (SMB). We will look at customer needs, applications built on Windows SharePoint Services, and what’s coming up in Windows SharePoint Services v3.
  3. Companies are changing the way they do business. Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) want to focus on improving business processes . They do not necessarily have the resources to grow business-oriented solutions in-house due to lack of IT budget and resources. SMBs need to address the challenges in how the work environment has changed, such as increase in mobile workers and needing to collaborate with internal and external parties . Workers need to be able to coordinate tasks, calendars, and projects . They need the tools to work with that map to their business processes. This provides a great opportunity for service providers to offer SMBs solutions based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services to increase business productivity, while removing the burden of IT support from the SMB. Information sharing, task coordination, and workflow routing are essential to keep businesses running. Windows SharePoint Services give organizations the ability to streamline such work activities and keep teams on the same page, both within and across companies. Built on Microsoft Windows Server ™ 2003, Windows SharePoint Services provides best-of-breed collaboration tools and foundation platform for scalable Web-based applications. With a familiar Web-browser interface and close integration with everyday tools such as the Microsoft Office system, Windows SharePoint Services is easy to use, simple to manage, and rapid to deploy. <<SPEAKER NOTE: THE SLIDE THAT FOLLOWS (Challenge: Changing Work Environments) IS HIDDEN. TALKING POINTS ARE COVERED ON THIS SLIDE AND HIGHLIGHTED ABOVE IN BOLD BUT IF YOU WANT TO SEPARATE OUT THE CHALLENGES, UNHIDE THE SLIDE AND TALK TO EACH OF THE POINTS>>
  4. <<SPEAKER NOTE: THIS SLIDE IS HIDDEN – UNHIDE IF YOU WANT TO SPEAK DIRECTLY TO CHALLENGES OF CHANGES IN HOW PEOPLE WORK OR USE IT FOR BACKGROUND INFORMATION TO SPEAK TO THE PREVIOUS SLIDE>> The way we work has changed. And the way value is created has changed. And people are at the center of value creation in businesses. <<SPEAKER NOTE: BUILD SLIDE –each click adds one of the four items on right side>> Primary entry point: New World of Work (NWOW) themes One world of work – working cross-boundaries, cross-company, closer supplier-customer connections, direct sales, global Human capital and information as key asset in your business: Leveraging your people assets, managing information overload, remaining agile in a world of data is critical for working in NWOW Always on, always connected – 24/7 work, blurring of work and personal life, always on – need to work more efficiently – make more efficient decisions, search, find what you need quickly Scenarios People are always recreating the wheel There's too much information, mostly unreliable Employees are no longer under one roof Time wasted waiting on approvals and finding accurate information
  5. © 2004 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. This presentation is for informational purposes only. Microsoft makes no warranties, express or implied, in this summary. 04/02/10 23:19 Microsoft market research indicates that almost half of the customers surveyed have a business need that can be addressed by solutions based on Windows SharePoint Services. More than 5% of those customers have an immediate need. This represents a great potential for service providers to develop applications and solutions based on Windows SharePoint Services. Microsoft market research completed in June 2005 demonstrates that SMBs are demanding business solutions built on top of Windows SharePoint Services 48% of surveyed customers demonstrated significant current business needs that are perfectly aligned with solutions based on Windows SharePoint Services Data indicates that 24% of SMBs have an active interest in adopting Windows SharePoint Services – based solutions and 5.4% have an urgent and quantified need Initial analysis indicates that the addressable market percentages identified in the U.S. are consistent with an EMEA opportunity.
  6. Let’s look at the SMB business needs in a little more detail. Based on Edge Research study, the key areas of business solutions for SMBs are: Centralized project and document management Customer service and support Sales support and sales team enablement Customer and partner extranets With the key customer focus of: Mobile workers Complex information-sharing and digital productivity requirements Customers with limited IT expertise One of the ways you can quickly get started in the SMB marketplace is by offering your customers applications and solutions that address the common areas that SMBs have defined as needs for business solutions. Some of the specific ways that these Collaboration Solutions can be used are: Project management: Store and share the project documents, assign tasks, and track progress and accountability among employees. Share key data with customers and external partners when necessary. Centralize official company lists and procedures: Eliminate use of duplicate, out-of-date copies on people's hard drives. Problem resolution: Log incidents, assign staff, and track resolution for issues such as product returns, complaints, help desk requests, etc. Departmental Private Web sites (portals): For example, provide a central point where sales staff away from the office can review the latest announcements and access current customer contact history and address lists. Manage the schedule for shared resources: Such as conference rooms and equipment. <<SPEAKER NOTE: THE SLIDE THAT FOLLOWS (Opportunity by SMB Vertical) IS HIDDEN. UNHIDE THE SLIDE AND TALK TO SMB CUSTOMERS OPPORTUNITIES BASED ON INDUSTRY>>
  7. <<SPEAKER NOTE: THIS SLIDE IS HIDDEN. You can use this as talking points or even show the slide if running ahead of schedule.>> You should also consider target customer industries that have business models that match directly with a hosted application value-proposition, including mobile workers, complex information sharing and digital productivity requirements and limited IT expertise. Edge Research study shows that those key focus industries are: Professional services Finance, real estate and insurance (agent-based businesses) Construction Business services
  8. Help your customers gain business process efficiency with Windows SharePoint Services Windows SharePoint Services enables you to deploy a collaboration solution that is easy for customers to adopt and use through integration with everyday and familiar tools such as the Microsoft Office System. Users can publish, store, share, and keep track of information workflow and documents. This valuable platform can help your customers do more. Based on Windows Server, Windows SharePoint Services technology can offer customers a manageable infrastructure and an extensible platform for collaboration applications. Windows SharePoint Services provides the following values: Benefits for the service provider Manageable infrastructure Manage control and security of organization’s information resources Foundation platform for Web applications Offer customers increased business process efficiency through Web applications and workflow scenarios Benefit for the hosted customer Efficient collaboration solutions Enable teams to stay connected and productive by providing access to the people, documents, and information they need Easy to get started – easy to use Service providers can deploy easy-to-use collaboration applications Customers can use familiar tools such as Web browsers and the Office System applications
  9. Microsoft has developed a series of pre-built templates that serve as starting points for service providers, IT teams, or value-added resellers (VARs) to create fully functional Windows SharePoint Services – based applications. Application templates are out-of-box custom scenarios for the Windows SharePoint Services platform. You can use them to tailor your customer’s experience – addressing specific business processes or sets of tasks. We’ve been getting feedback from partners that the templates help them start conversations and deployment with customers, while still giving room for their own solutions to be extended on top of templates. Great path to establish Windows SharePoint Services as a platform for collaborative applications, beyond just an engine for workspaces.   To see examples of those templates go to http://sharepoint.bilsimser.com/pages/templates.aspx. <<SPEAKER NOTES>> Each bullet is hyperlinked to the application template on the Web site listed. Select one or two to demo. <<LIVE DEMO WILL REQUIRE INTERNET ACCESS DURING SEMINAR>> If Internet access is not available, talk to the Custom Helpdesk example based on Windows SharePoint Services v2 shown in screen show. Point out that this is only a partial list of the available application templates. <<SPEAKER NOTE: THE FOLLOWING SLIDE (Hosting Offerings Based on Windows SharePoint Services) IS HIDDEN. Unhide if you want to use it as background for value of service offering>>
  10. <<SPEAKER NOTE: THIS SLIDE IS HIDDEN. Unhide if you want to use it as background for value of different service offerings>> What does that mean to service providers? The ability to offer your customers this compelling business application provides another opportunity for you to increase your average revenue per user (ARPU). <<SPEAKER NOTE: Build Slide. Four clicks, each click adds one of the offerings>> You can deploy Windows SharePoint Services under a variety of dedicated and shared hosting scenarios. Site definitions can now be made up of sets of encapsulated feature definitions, allowing capabilities and initial content to be shared across site definitions and added to existing sites after the fact.   Windows SharePoint Services v3 hosts Windows Workflow Foundation (WWF) . As a workflow engine, it does not provide an out-of-the-box workflow user experience.
