But why do Ford Hot Rods have Chevrolet Engines? Do they want to become muscle cars?
Chevrolet engines are quite possibly the most popular engines used in hot rods today. This is not surprising, considering the vast selection of aftermarket parts and the fact that Chevrolet engine components are almost always cheaper compared to other manufacturers. A hot rod’s performance primarily depends on two variables: power and weight. If the vehicle’s weight is constant but the power is increased, the vehicle will be faster. Similarly, if the engine’s power is unchanged but the vehicle’s weight is reduced, the vehicle will also be faster. A Chevy hot rod engine can be built to both increase the amount of power and reduce the vehicle’s weight.

what’s up?

Well, hot rods aren’t really meant to be muscle cars, so why the chevy
engines?
Last summer I had the opportunity of attending the LA Hot Rod show in Pasadena at the Fairplex.
Being from the state of Washington where it rains 9 months out of the year, you see very little hot
rod enthusiasts driving their rods. I didn’t realize how big Hot Rods were in California until I
attended this show.
Year 2013 will be the 49th time the Los Angeles Roadsters Car Club has produced its world-
renowned show and the 34th year it will be held at the Fairplex in Pomona, California.
Late model enthusiasts can find the swappers and manufacturers with many of the parts they are
looking for, while early car parts are in abundance for the fellows who are restoring antiques or
building that special new car. This is the West Coast’s largest trade show, where over 200
manufacturers and vendors of reproduction hot rod parts and accessories display their products
2. and services. It’s a huge show that kind of reminds me of Disneyland…you need a week and still
can’t see everything.
One of the reasons for going there at this time was my brother-in-law has a 37 Ford Hot Rod and
attends many of these show in the area. He’s involved with his hot rod group and goes to many
of the local shows. There was also going to be a private Birthday party for Alex Xydias, the father
of the Southern Cal hot rods.
Prior to the big show at the Fairplex, we attended a Hot Rod drive by at a residence near
Pasadena. A guy by the name of “Thumper” (not really sure how he got this name) holds a
barbeque every year for the Hot Rod enthusiast. Anyone, and I mean anyone, who hears about
Thumpers barbeque drives by with their Hot Rod, and can stop for FREE burgers, margueritas,
beer, etc., all compliments of Thumper. The following photos are of his “everyone with a hot rod is
invited” barbeque.
NOTE: check out the red car on the fence. It is actually cut in half and mounted on the fence.

5. Xydias first started construction of his hot rod, shaped like a tank, in February 1948 and finished it
6. in time for the first SCTA meet in April . He set the Class A record of 130.155 mph at the close of
the 1948 season.

Enter the muscle cars.
While the image of a hot rod is typically a 30’s model Ford, there are also some very strange hot
rods developed by people who work around other types of frames.
I guess they figure once they have done everything else, why not step out of the box a little.
Speaking of stepping out of the box a little, why not check out Empower Network. Many who have
become financially independent have found Empower to be just the foundation they have needed.
In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if many have already parked customized hot rods in their garages.
This thing is big.
Most of the time when “they” tell you it’s going to be “big” …. and you need to “get in ahead of the
curve” before it launches.
But with this, that’s all still true - EXCEPT – there’s already an unbelievable amount of proof this
works.
PROOF - like the fact that people have earned over $26-MILLION dollars in commissions in the last
7. 12 months or so.
PROOF - like hundreds (maybe thousands) of people who have FAILED in other stuff, but have
earned money here, all online, without picking up the phone.
PROOF - like the fact that one guy we’ll introduce to you who used what we taught him, and has
earned over$600,000.00 in the last 12 months (and he was almost bankrupted when he started).
PROOF - like the fact you don’t need to go out and “sell” a bunch of crap door to door, or talk to
friends and family if you don’t want – and you don’t need to set up a bunch of “tech stuff” either.
