Good afternoon Chancellor Drummond, Distinguished guests and colleagues BW Director of SVWpLRC an Initiative of the Economic and Workforce Development Program (EWD) Wplrc’s are one of 10 types funded initiative centers in the EWD and focus on training and assessment for BASIC Skills, English as a Second Language and Math. Thank you direction you have taken EWD First saw at EWD Summit in Sac. Sea Change in attitude from a bunker mentality to getting it done Applaud our leadership Lin M, Frank C, John Hendrickson, Stan Atterbury Ambush for signatures EWD initiatives are in a unique position Different Reports College, District, Region and State Different Services In addition to delivering WpLRC services to Companies and CBO’s, WED groups, Regional Collaboratives, we work as an Engine for Economic and Workforce development by helping to connect the college directly to the businesses and communities in the region.
Different Activities 1 Develop fee based contracts providing WpLRC services to companies 2 work with business and the community to ensure that training matches needs and demands, and is delivered where and when needed 3 deliver services to colleges and participating in forums throughout the region 4 acquire grants to further our services 5 bring experiences and knowledge back to the college and facilitate professional development and educational possibilities.
Fleshing out the five activity areas Here are some of the companies, groups, agencies, and collaborations we deal with. Since time is short, I’d like to highlight two activites we are involved with that involve multiple strands The first one is the Silicon Valley Workforce Coalition which is a partnership that includes the EWD program at Foothill/DeAnza under Rick Kuhn, County of Santa Clara, Silicon Valley Leadership Group (one of the members is here Dennis Cima Director of Education and Workforce preparedness) to create a series of events bringing together industry, education, and economic and workforce development groups to insure the Valley has the workforce to attract and retain leading edge businesses and organizations for the benefit of the entire community. Our first event is in the final planning stages and will be May 6 th at WebEx one of the WpLRC’s Corporate Partners The second highlights how the WpLRC fosters external and internal relationships Through Bay Area Econ and Workforce professionals group got a mini grate ooperation with Income Generating Partnership Hospira and Internal support from Info Tech Services Developed Online Course in Designing High Performance Docs Course Delivered 1 being delivered again New more generic course being developed for further income generation benefiting Info tech and WpLRC
