14. SCARY THEORY THREE!
Dark matter is normal matter that reflects X rays instead of
normal light so we can't see it. I don't get it either. It has
something to do with REALLY hot gas.
15. The Discovery of Dark matter
Dark matter was discovered by Fritz Zwicky. He was doing a
project where he was measuring the mass of a galaxy. He
measured it by finding out how much light there was. He could
then mathematically calculate the mass. Then he tried again a
different way to confirm his findings.
16. More on the Discovery
He used the Rotational Velocity, a method that uses the
droplar shift*. Not only did he find over 400 times more mass
than before, but he found that the stars on the end were
rotating at a speed so fast that the galaxy should be ripped
apart. The only way that the stars could be rotating that fast
would be if there was other mass there to support it. People
ignored his findings until the nineteen seventies when it
became directly relevant to lots of holes they were finding in
resaerch. It explained many theories and problems.

19. The Droplar Shift
The droplar shift was discovered by Christian Droplar. He was
the one that figured out that light has shifts associated with
colors. When light is moving toward you, it is in a blue shift.
When it is going away it is in a red shift. We can therefor tell
how fast galaxies are going and which ways they are going.
Using the rotational velocity we can tell how fats they rotate.
The side moving toward us is blue and the side moving away
from us is red. Once we know how fast it is rotating we can
calculete how much matter is in it.
