2. Ownership
0 Celador is a global light entertainment company
originally formed as an independent production
company in 1983. Celador was originally taken over
by Compete Communications, which bought out
shareholders including Paul Smith CBE and Jasper
Carrott. Whilst under the ownership of Complete,
Celador expanded fledging radio, film and
international businesses. But then Complete
announced their intention to sell Celador
international and Celador Productions management
completed a buy out of the company.
3. Operating model
0 Celador is a relatively small production company. It
makes films on a project-by-project basis, contracting
with freelance staff ranging from directors and actors
to lawyers and caterers to make sure a project gets
made. Celador set up because the BBC had given them
money to make the TV show The Detectives and then
Jasper Carrot and Paul Smith worked together to
create the Celador company and then BBC aired The
Detectives which became a huge hit.
4. Operating Model
0 The film ‘The Descent’ was funded by selling the
distribution rights to Pathe before it was made, so that
it was enough money for Pathe to release in Cinemas
and on DVD. This was funded by Pathe because
Celador did not have enough money to fund it
themselves. Celador then reinvested the money into
the film after they were paid by Pathe so then they
were able to make it and release it.

movie is one of their top selling movies only had a
budget of £3.5million which grossed at $88,025,781.
9. Market Position and
competitors
0 Sony Production had one of the highest selling movies with
Spider-Man 3 which had a budget of $258 million and then
grossed at $890,871,626.
0 Compared to all of the other movies and film productions
Celador had the movie The Descent which had a budget of
£3.5 million and then it grossed at $57,051,053 being
surprising successful compared to many peoples
expectations. Even though the movie grossed very high it
did not do as well as Spiderman which was released by
Sony Production but Celador did better than DNA because
they had a smaller budget but they did had a large gross.
