2014 Community Outreach Overview
HOT STOVE DINNER &
AUCTION
The Crosscutters hosted our 8th
annual Hot Stove League Dinner and
Auction in January, 2014, with
proceeds from the event benefitting
Special Olympics Lycoming County.
Guest speakers from both the Phillies
and the Crosscutters marked the
night, including former Major Leaguer
Tom O'Malley, and former
Crosscutter/current Phillie Cody
Asche. The night also featured a live
and silent auction of sports
memorabilia. More than 300 people
attended this sold out event. In all,
over $5,000 was raised for charity.
BULLY BUSTERS UNITE
The Crosscutters introduced a brand
new school assembly program in 2014
called Bully Busters Unite. The Bully
Buster program is centered on
bullying prevention and positively
effects young audiences by engaging
them directly. Through some digging,
our host and audience discover that
Boomer is being bullied at school.
After taking a look at what Boomer is
dealing with, the audience learns how
to handle a variety of bullying
situations. The show’s message is
reinforced through the delivery of
posters highlighting key tips from the
show that can be displayed in the
classroom or around the school.
Students are also given an activity
book designed to engage and further
teach them how to handle bullying.
CUTTERS 5K RUN FOR
THE CDC
On June 28, the Crosscutters hosted a
5k Run for the Children's
Development Center of Williamsport.
Runners and walkers had the chance
to run with the Cutters manager and
members of our coaching staff.
Thanks to hundreds of runners, we
were able to raise over $7,000 for the
CDC!
MILITARY
APPRECIATION NIGHT
The Crosscutters celebrated Military
Appreciation night on Saturday, July
5. The night included a special
pregame ceremony honoring local
veterans who were included in our
first ever Military Heroes card set,
along with special Stars ‘N’ Stripes
caps that were worn by Cutters
players and coaches, and were
auctioned off during the game.
Proceeds from the auction benefited
the Sgt. Sean Thomas foundation and
local Masonic charities. A total of
$1,280.00 was raised in all.
IRISH HERITAGE NIGHT
The Crosscutters celebrated Irish
Heritage Night on July 26 with plenty
of Irish food, folklore and even Irish
Jig dancers! The players also wore
special Irish themed jerseys that were
auctioned off to fans during the game.
The luck of the Irish was with us, as
over $2,500.00 was raised for K’s for
Cancer, a locally founded charity.
155 DAYS TO
CHRISTMAS
The Crosscutters attempted to
celebrate Halfway to Christmas on
June 25, however Mother Nature had
other ideas. With the game
postponed, we were left to celebrate
155 Days to Christmas on August 2.
The night included a toy drive as well
as an Ugly Christmas Sweater jersey
auction benefitting Toys for Tots. The
very popular Ugly Christmas Sweater
jerseys were worn by players and
coaches, then auctioned off after the
game. Over $3,800 was raised
through the jersey auction, and over
75 toys were donated!
DOMINICAN
PLATE
On August 5 the Crosscutters held our
second annual Dominican Plate, an
event to celebrate the culture and
heritage of our Latin players and
community members, with all
proceeds benefitting locally founded
A.C.E.S. – a charity focused on
education efforts in the Dominican.
The night featured traditional
Dominican food, drink and dancing all
served up by the Cutters’ Latin
players. In just it’s second year, this
event raised $4,000 for the A.C.E.S.
program.
FOOD & CLOTHING
DRIVES
During the 2014 season, the
Crosscutters held one food drive and
one clothing drive at Susquehanna
Bank Park. Fans who donated any
canned or non-perishable food item
to the Central PA Food Bank collection
on July 5 received free general
admission, and those who donated
gently worn apparel items to the
American Rescue Workers collection
on August 4 received general
admission for just $1. Over 400
pounds of food and 800 pounds of
clothing was collected for distribution
to local families in need.
CHARITABLE TUESDAYS
Throughout the season the
Crosscutters provided local charitable
organizations the opportunity to join
us at the ballpark and promote their
programs. This initiative, called
Charitable Tuesdays, highlighted one
organization at each Tuesday game.
The organization was interviewed on-field
before the game, got to throw
out the ceremonial first pitch, and
was able to set up a table in our
concourse to distribute information to
Cutters’ fans. Five organizations
participated in this program.
Participating Organizations:
• Heroin Task Force
• Habitat for Humanity
• Williamsport Kiwanis Club
• Lycoming County Children & Youth
LCUW
HOME RUN TEAM
The Crosscutters again teamed up
with businesses throughout the
community to present the Lycoming
County United Way Home Run Team
in 2014. Local businesses pledged to
donated $25 each time a Cutters
player hit a home run at Susquehanna
Bank Park. In 2014, this initiative
raised over $6,600 for the Lycoming
County United Way. With the annual
help of local businesses, the Home
Run Team has raised more than
$142,000 over 21 seasons.
STRIKEOUTS FOR
STELLAR EDUCATION
The Williamsport Crosscutters
partnered with Susquehanna Bank to
deliver the Stikeouts for Stellar
Education program. Throughout the
2014 season, Susquehanna Bank
made a donation for every strikeout
thrown by a Cutters pitcher during
home games. $5,000 was raised for
CAPPA, which benefits local
underpriveledged children.
COMMUNITY
APPEARANCES
The Crosscutters players, staff and
mascot Boomer make it a point to be
involved in our local community.
Throughout the year you can find the
Cutters’ visiting numerous events,
schools and organizations. Over the
course of the 2014 season, Cutters
players alone volunteered a total of
167 hours in the community!
DONATIONS
Each year the Crosscutters make
ticket, merchandise and autographed
memorabilia donations to local
charitable organizations. In 2014, the
Crosscutters made more than $27,600
in in-kind donations!
Thank you for your continued support!
The Crosscutters look forward to continuing to serve the Williamsport
area and surrounding communities. For questions regarding the
Crosscutters community outreach programs, appearances and
donations, please contact Sarah Budd (570)326-3389 or
