Home Window Tinting
1. Home Window Tinting
Does it get really hot inside your house in the summer? Maybe it does because your windows are not tinted. If you are
starting to feel that it is warmer inside your house compared to outside, then it is probably time to get some home window
tinting.
The sun is a source of energy, light and heat. These are all essential for our existence. Unfortunately, together with these,
harmful rays are being emitted – infrared and ultraviolet (UV) rays. Infrared carries the heat that we feel. Today more
than ever, the earth is becoming too hot. The heat is trapped in our atmosphere and hotter summers are inevitable. UV
is causing more damage compared to infrared – color fading on fabric, wood, furniture and carpets, and also damage in
humans like erythema (sunburns), photoaging, and melanoma (that when left untreated will lead to skin cancer).
So what does tinting have to do with all of these? Once your windows are treated with special films, (1) they reduce the
heat that enters your home through the windows since the tint from inner side of the window absorbs the heat and stores
it on the exterior side. This reduces the temperature significantly inside of the room. (2) They also act as a shield against
UV. This helps in prolonging the color of your furniture and other items at home that are exposed to the light coming in
from the windows.
Besides protection, there are more benefits from home window tinting.
- Solar glare reduction. Because light has to pass through several layers of film and then glass, glare is reduced.
- Decorative and stylish. There are many types of films available, from plain dyes to to printed patterns with intricate detail.
There are also some films that make your ordinary glass look like a work or art by using a stained glass pattern.
- Added privacy. Depending on the heaviness of the color, you would probably no longer need to drape those curtains to
have some privacy. Especially when the film is metalized, your tinted windows often reflect the images it receives.
- It prevents shards from a broken glass from scattering. Shattered glass could cause injuries when stepped on, or if you
were close to the window at the time it was shattered. Tinting serves as a “sticky tack” that holds most of the shattered
glass in place.
