Reaction to a Day without a Mexican
A day without Mexican was a film direct by Sergio Arau. This film gave a critical thinking
at the consequence of all the Mexicans in the state of California suddenly disappearing. Nowadays,
Mexican American has become a big population of America society, and a lot of Americans realized
the situation with Mexicans. Native Americans found more and more Mexicans appeared in their
daily life. As a result, conflicts often happened in these two different groups. Some Native
Americans think that Mexicans invade their living space and country, and they think do not welcome
Mexicans, but the Mexicans had already become an important part of the American society.
The film A Day without a Mexican shows what would happen if one day a third of
population of United States just was not there anymore. This film would be the ultimate irony of
illegal labor, occupational stereotypes and illegal immigrant. In addition, I found an interesting
phenomenon in this film, even between Hispanics, the lighter Hispanics would found better job than
darker skinned. All in all, this movie gave a different point of view for the racial issue.
