My guide suggested visiting a slave auction. He said

spectacle was sure to interest me. He was wrong.
I came away feeling depressed. These people don’t

those they sell.
I think it is the sound I will remember the most. The
clanking of the chains and the soft cries of the
people as they were separated from their friends –
these things I will not forget
