Mansa Musa was the king of the Mali Empire from 1312 to 1337 who is famous for his pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324. He traveled with a massive caravan of 60,000 men and slaves, accompanied by 80-100 camels each carrying 300 pounds of gold. His legendary wealth and trip spread knowledge of Mali throughout Europe and the Middle East.
