This past Sunday was the final part of our series, "Transformed: from the inside out."
There was great feedback @ Arise as a result of this series teaching.
This presentation (part 3) begins where part 2 left off.
6. Six days later, three of them saw that glory. Jesus took Peter
and the brothers, James and John, and led them up a high
mountain. His appearance changed from the inside out, right
before their eyes. Sunlight poured from his face. His clothes
were filled with light. Then they realized that Moses and Elijah
were also there in deep conversation with him. 4Peter broke
in, "Master, this is a great moment! What would you think if I
built three memorials here on the mountain one for you, one
for Moses, one for Elijah?” 5While he was going on like this,
babbling, a light-radiant cloud enveloped them, and sounding
from deep in the cloud a voice: "This is my Son, marked by
my love, focus of my delight. Listen to him.” 6-8When the
disciples heard it, they fell flat on their faces, scared to death.
But Jesus came over and touched them. "Don't be afraid."
When they opened their eyes and looked around all they saw
was Jesus, only Jesus.
- The Message
7. A mountain experience
Mountains have been associated with God,
worship, prayer, and events.
Moses spoke to God on Mount Sinai. (Exodus)
Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount” (Matt. 5-7)
Jesus was even tempted on a high mountain
(Matt. 4:8)
Jesus sought the mountain for his own prayer
and devotion (Matt.14:23)
It was on a high mountain that the disciples
see Jesus transformed.
8. “listen to him”
God again affirms Jesus as His son.
Baptism of Jesus (Matt. 3:17)
They/We are still lacking faith.
They/We still need further instruction.
9. “Rise, and have no fear”
The disciples were scared.
But Jesus came to them.
Jesus touched them.
Jesus spoke to them.
Beautiful Christology!
10. 2 Chronicles 7:14
“…if my people, who are called by my
name, will humble themselves and pray
and seek my face and turn from their
wicked ways, then will I hear from
heaven and will forgive their sin and will
heal their land.”
