Routes of the “tramuntana” wind and light

"The projection of the air of the tramontana on the country
produces a clean landscape, dry, precise, admirably
drawn...
of naked distances that approach in sight, with immense
rainbows, of a dazzling metallic purity".

north wind (Essay about the weather of the country)", in
My Country (1967).
The tramontana it's cold, dry wind, which proceeds of the
north and often very strong. Is a typical climatic factor
from the Empordà, which influences the character of the
persons. The irritability increases them for some and in
other, however, loads them of energy.
The light and the color of the Empordà after a north wind,
it's like contemplating an artwork. It is surprising to ascertain
the influence accused of the wind in the conformation of
environments, of landscapes with speech. Jacint

Verdaguer, Carles Fages de Climent, Salvador Dalí, and
later Josep Pla saw in the north wind an essential element
of the genius loci from Empordà.
The routes of the tramontana and of the light are from
abrupt and scabrous geography, propped by the wind of
the north wind.
Landscape, photography and, either flavor in sea (from
Port Bou until Cap de Creus) or flavor in rosemary (for the

our country.
After a couple of hours we will go back to the hotel in order to enjoy one of our refreshing activities.
• Before dinner we suggest to do a CAVA CHALLENGE, a funny blind tasting where the participants will have
to decide what is best: a cava or a champagne.

Today we will make lunch ourselves. Directed by our chef and accompanied by our

accompanied with Spanish Hams in a winery of the Wine Area (D.O.) Empordà.

The area
• Hotel Mas Tapiolas can offer its clients the possibility of
enjoying exclusive services and its excellent location, the
Vall de Solius (Solius Valley), where such things as peace
and quietness, which can be easily sensed, together with
its great natural value and cultural heritage, have made
it one of the most emblematic places in Costa Brava.

Despite it being located in a secluded place, this 4-star
hotel has good communications with the main centres
of interest and leisure of the area (Platja d’Aro, Sant Feliu
de Guíxols, Palamós, Palafrugell, Girona...). This way, the
possibilities for enjoying leisure and entertainment
outdoors are very big and varied. The S’Agaró Beach is

just ten minutes far form the hotel, and the golf courses
of both Santa Cristina d’Aro and Mas Nou (Platja d’Aro)
are only five minutes far. PGA Golf de Caldes de
Malavella is also quite close, as well as the much
recognised Empordà Golf (Gualta), the Club de Golf de
Pals and the Club Golf Girona.

The facilities
The inside
• They have 7 rooms at your disposal in the fine residential
zone (Masia). All of them have been decorated with
Catalan country-style furniture, and supplied with all sorts of
services and amenities. The other 31 rooms are located in
the new residential zone, of a neoclassical-style decoration,
where soft pastel shade colors are predominant. The
Ground Floor rooms are endowed with a terrace and a little
outdoor garden with grass.

• Let yourself be seduced by their gastronomic offer when
paying a visit to their familiar and cozy atmosphere
restaurant. Over there you can enjoy the tasting of a wide

range of dishes inspired by the Catalan traditional cooking,
composed of appropriate specialties according to season.

The breakfast service is offered at their buffet located in the
``Saló dels Caçadors`` room, where you will be able to
choose among a diverse variety of products in order to get
off to a good start in the morning.

If you prefer something lighter and informal, we can suggest
you to approach their Cafeteria Bar, where you will be able
to enjoy their drinks selection and a nice view of the ``Massís
de l`Ardenya``.

In addition, they have at your disposal their room service,
with a selection of dishes according to one’s fancy.

Our selection of wineries
• Food wine tours has selected a range of wineries where to develop a
few of your activities in the territory where you are accommodated.

When you start a tale in the Catalan tradition you
would say: Heus aquí una vegada…Once upon
a time there was a place where people and
earth worked together. There was an earth where
the Greeks planted seeds (which are the llavors in
our language) of a great history. There were the
soils (sòls in Catalan) that saw grew up the
vineyard and olive cultivation. Here is where
tradition and the search for authenticity go
together. This is the way, with hope, that the

image takes colour and the darkness breaks.
This is a small vineyard and olive grove in the core
of Empordà, in Mollet de Peralada. It is also a
young familiar company fruit of the effort and
dreams come true. The origin of this project
traces back to 2002 when two old Carignan and
Grenache vines – aged between 50 and 75 –
were purchased. So far, more and more vines
have been planted up to the almost 30 ha. The
project was consolidated in 2006 with the
construction of the cellar and the making of the
first wines. Since 2009 the winery belongs to one
of the first wineries that have entered to the
Integrated system of cultivation respectful with
the environment.

Cooking Team Bulding
• Paella is the most famous authentic national dish of Spain.
Come and learn how to prepare this wonderful and tasty
meal.
• The group will be divided in teams that will have to make the
paella following the instructions in the recipe and led by the
chefs that will be helping and supporting.
• Once the paellas are finished, they will be blind tasted and
judged on different criteria by the master chef.

Includes:

• A dish of the paella made by the participants
• Dessert: crema catalana
• White wine, bottled mineral water and coffee.

Price per person: 55€ (minimum of 40 people)


Sailing through Costa Brava
The brigantine Sea Star is a unique boat in Spain, with
noble woods, 2 masts , 6 double cabins with ensuite
bathroom, air conditioning and heating facilities.

Other facilities: dining room in stern deck, view bridge,
sun deck, living room with tv, hi-fi, auxiliar boat, 520
square meters of wings, fishing rods, professional crew,
and all necessary services for a safe and nice boat trip.

After boarding we will sail through the coast arriving (if
weather and time allows us) to Cap de Creus.
During the trip we will be able to observe the new vines
of Grenache, Syrah and Monastrell. We will taste the

wines of the winery, talk about its history and its
anecdotes and enjoy a full trip full of emotions, relax
and pleasure.
