OLMEC
ESPINA
Ang kauna-unahang Kabihasnan
umusbong sa Mesoamerica
Ang katagang OLMEC
ay nangangahulugang
RUBBER PEOPLE
dahil sila ang kauna-unahang
gumamit ng
dagta ng mga punong
rubber o goma
Ang kanilang kabihasnan ay yumabong sa
rehiyon ng Gulf of Mexico
Gulf of
Mexico,
southern
Veracruz,
and western
Tabasco
Archaeologists consider the
Olmecs to be one of only six
“pristine” civilizations: these
were cultures that developed on
their own without the benefit of
migration or influence from
some other civilization.
The Olmecs were able to make
several sorts of tools which
made their life easier. They
used whatever was at hand,
such as clay, stone, bone, wood
or deer antlers.
They were skilled at
making pottery:
vessels and plates
used for storing and
cooking food. Clay
pots and vessels
were extremely
common among the
Olmec
Pottery is made from Clay
found at San Lorenzo.
Excavated by Jeffrey
Blomster and colleagues.
Isang pamayanang
agrikultural
They planted many of the
same crops seen in the
region today, such as
squash, beans, manioc,
sweet potatoes and
tomatoes. Maize was a
staple of the Olmec diet,
The Olmecs were expert farmers and
practiced a type of farming known as
slash-and-burn farming

They are best known for
their massive colossal
