The Gaza Strip has a population of over 1.4 million people confined to a small coastal enclave with high population density. It has suffered from an Israeli siege since 2007 resulting in a humanitarian crisis, with over 80% of the population relying on food assistance. The blockade has severely restricted imports and exports, causing widespread unemployment, the closure of most businesses, and left the area with only a few hours of electricity per day. Agriculture, a key economic sector, has been badly damaged by restricted access to farmland, imports of materials, and attacks on farmers and olive trees.
