  1. The City of Bethlehem lies at the heart of the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton MSA, known locally as the Lehigh Valley region. The two county region is home to over ½ million people. The 1741 colonial settlement experienced substantial growth during the industrial revolution of the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries. Although the City’s key industry, steel production, suffered decline through the later half of the 20 th century, the regional economy diversified during that time period. Although the townships of the region have suburbanized substantially during this same period, the City of Bethlehem has maintain a consistent population level and stable demographics.
  2. This illustrates the massiveness of the Bethlehem Steel plant in the City, it also highlights the magnitude of our redevelopment opportunity.
