2. Front Cover
1) I opened up a new A4 page on photoshop
and then made a duplicate layer of it by
right clicking on the original and selecting
duplicate layer from the options.
2) I deleted the original layer and used the
copy of the background by clicking and
holding it, and then placing it in the bin.

3) Using the bucket tool I selected an
appropriate theme colour for my contents
page and front cover, which will allow
pictures and text to stand out.

3. 4) Then I inserted pictures that will be on
the front cover and typed the text which
will be on the front cover. I had to use the
‘lasso’ tool in order to cut out a portrait
without the interference of the
background.

This is the final result of my front cover for
my preliminary task containing all the
images and text. I have used matching fonts
and background in order to make it more
consistent and fit for purpose. I made the
masthead larger than the rest of the
text, therefore it is the most attractive
aspect of the front cover alongside the
main image.

4. Contents Page
Similarly to my front cover I also kept the same font styles and
colour in order to keep consistency. I have added a few pictures
linked to the contents of the magazine.

5. What I learnt from my preliminary task
• I learnt how to use the photoshop software, as
this was the first time I used the program.
• I learnt that consistency is one of the major
aspect of designing a magazine as it portrays
professionalism and fit for its purpose.
• I also learnt that there are many tools in
photoshop which come in very handy when
developing a magazine, for example the lasso tool
helped me to cut out the part of the image very
accurately.
