learned and re-learned to survive to live out their remaining years.Interestingly this
new information age has also brought new opportunities. With the advent of new and
more powerful computers and user-friendly softwares, the dream of making money
online is now not only possible but also a reality. This has created a new opportunity
for those seeking a new career or those on retirement. Welcome to the world of
Internet Marketing!
Picking Up The Pieces
Change or become Obsolete
I started out doing Internet Marketing not by choice but by design that I have to
succeed . Like many newbies with very little knowledge on computers except able to
send emails and surfing the net the fear of going into this business is really daunting.
The fear of getting into learning how to learn all the technical details of setting up the
website and how to sell a product online have actually put me off. When I first heard
of HTML, FTP files, backlinks and social book-marking I was at a total lost. My first
reaction was to drop out. With this experience I have decided to share what I have
gone through with those just starting out or those would like to consider Internet
Marketing a new career. It is very important to have an overview of what is Internet
Marketing and its concepts trying to understand some of the keywords used. I intend
to offer a brief understanding of these principles. So for those who attend such
Internet seminars will be able to understand more of what the Internet Gurus have to
offer.
Understanding Internet Marketing
Internet Marketing is a way of reaching customers through the Internet. It uses
different methods, strategies and many revenue models to earn a decent profit. Money
is made by offering a service, selling your own product or selling other's people
product. The payment transaction is usually through credit card or through a reliable
partner service called Paypal
2. Business Models.
What to sell on the Internet?
Before creating a website or literally speaking, opening up your door for business on
the Internet you will need to decide what to sell. There are 3 business models.
1. Creating your own product. For example jewellery, clothes or handicrafts.
2. Offering a service. Catering, baby sitting, accountancy services.
3. Selling other people's products or also known as Affiliate Marketing whereby you
earn a commission.
Getting a Keyword for your URL or Domain name
What is a Keyword?
A keyword is like a name of your company. In this case you must have a name for
your website. Because it is going to appear on the search engines like Yahoo, Google,
Bing or MSN it must be easy to remember and read. For example, google.com,
ebay.com or nutcracker.com
Dog Training is a keyword. But it is very generic meaning it can mean many things.
To be more specific many marketers use Long-Tail keywords. For example,
dogtrainingfood, dogtrainingtechniques, dogtrainingtips etc....Why? So visitors can
find you easily by typing these specific words or niche words.
Creating a website
A Picture Tells a Thousand Words
Once a product or service is confirmed you will need a website. Whether it is your
own or the vendor's website. The product you are selling on behalf of someone is the
vendor's website. For your own you will need,
1. A Set-up using the software provided by the course provider you are enrolled in.
Some course providers will provide free for the first website.
2. There are some requirements you need to do while creating this website,
> A domain name also known as URL.This is the name of your website. For example,
www.golftrainingtips.com
> Register this name with a webhost. This will ensure that your website will appear on
the internet for people to search you and buy your product or service.
Normally a webhost will offer a domain name and a webhosting service as a package.

3. Promoting Your Website
Traffic Is Your Lifeblood
Once the website is ready the next most important thing is to promote it. It is no use to
have a very nice website when nobody visits it. Some of the most common methods
are,
1. Start a blog to write about the topic you are passionate about linking it to your
website. It must be relevant to your website's products or services that you are
offering. You can register with e-blogger or open a wordpressblog on the dashboard
of your website.
2. Use the social media, Twitter or facebook or similar platforms to link to your
website
3. Advertise with Google or Yahoo.. These are paid advertising. Free advertisement is
also available.
4. Press Release. Paid or Free online
These promotional methods are also known as Traffic Generation. Traffic is the
lifeblood of Internet business just like any other business. Without traffic no business
can survive. Web traffic is the term used to describe the millions of web surfers who
use the internet everyday to find the information, products and services they seek.
Get Organised
Plan to succeed or fail to plan
A business will not succeed unless a plan is in place or its process organised. Once
you have decided to take up Internet Marketing there will be many passwords,
website details, log in identifications and links you would need to keep them in a safe
place. It is advisable to collate them in an Excel file for easy access and safe keeping.
It can be tabulated as follow:
Website Name Shortened Link Password I.D Date joined RSS Feed Nicknames
