• “Allah” : Arabic proper noun; name for God, it refers
to the One and Only, the Unique Creator, Lord
Sustainer of the Universe, Who Alone is God – there
is none besides Allah.
• No equivalent translation in non-Semitic language.



• “Muhammad s.a.a.w.” : Arabic name meaning “the
Praised One”; he is the Chosen, Unlettered Prophet,
the servant and Messenger of Allah, the Awaited
Seal of Prophethood after whom there will be no
more prophet sent.



“There are many miracles of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. to be
offered as the evidence, and the greatest and most outstanding of
them is still available to be considered by anyone (even today, until
the Day of Judgement ) is without doubt, the Qur’an .... ”

“For We have never sent any Messenger except that he should be
heeded (obeyed) by Allah’s leave”.

(Qur’an : An-Nisa : 4 : 64)


“ Say (O Muhammad): "If ye do love Allah, follow me: Allah will love
you and forgive you your sins; for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most
Merciful.“ ”.

(Qur’an : Aali ‘Imran : 3 : 31)


“……and neither does he speak out of his own desire :
that (which he conveys to you) is but (a divine)
inspiration with which he is being inspired - something
that a very mighty one has imparted to him……”

(Qur’an : An-Najm : 53 : 3-4)


IIMAN ‘AMAL • IHSAN
[Islam]
Belief Submission Best or
Faith Obedience Righteous
Conviction Practice Conduct
Faith without obedience is meaningless; and obedience without Faith is
mere rituals and may even lead to hypocrisy.
Together, Faith and Obedience must lead to Righteousness with IHSAN
which essentially focus in our intention to sincerely serve Allah s.w.t.
Thus, in these three aspects can one be said to be true in his submission
to the Will of Allah (as Muslim).

THE FIRST ASPECT REQUIRED IN THE ATTESTATION TO
THE ABSOLUTE ONENESS OF ALLAH (TAUHEED)


(The Detailed Belief) “Al-iiman is that you:

Solemnly believe in Allah;

His angels;

His Books,

His Messengers;

In the Afterlife;

In the Decree, the good & bad, all comes
from (the eternal knowledge of) Allah
Most Exalted.”

MOST COMPASSIONATE,
MOST MERCIFUL

THE SECOND ARTICLE OF FAITH IN ACKNOWLEDGING
THE ABSOLUTE ONENESS OF ALLAH (TAUHEED)


“All praise is due to Allah, Originator of the heavens
and the earth, Who made the angels Messengers
with wings― two, or three, or four (Pairs):
(Unceasingly) He adds to His creation as He pleases:
for Allah has the power to will anything.”
(Qur’an: Surah Fatir: 35: 1)


HUMANS HAVE BEEN BESTOWED WITH
POWER FOR ABSTRACTION & IMAGINATION

 This is a fact. Thus it is that we can deduce presence or
existence of things by extrapolation beyond the mere
physical evidence into realms of concepts or ideas.



Thus, man can accept the fact that there are other unseen
creations in this universe beyond whatever his physical
senses can perceive, the unseen – or “ al-ghayb “
e.g. Life-force, soul, etc.



 In this realm of mental conception, if or when the
imagination is not grounded upon true & certain
knowledge, man may veer into believing in myths,
superstitions, fantasy, un-real imaginings, etc.



This is further compounded by man’s fitrah (innate)
inner fear of the unknown, which together with wrong
application of his power of imagination, may cause him
to believe wrongly about creation.

believe and do righteous deeds: for they shall have a reward
unfailing.”

KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ANGELS ARE BASED ON
TRUE & RELIABLE REPORTS (TAUQIFIYYAH)

“And who denies Allah, His angels, His Books, His
Messengers, and the Day of Judgment, hath gone far,
far astray.”
(Qur’an: An-Nisa’: 4: 136)



Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said: “Allah created the angels
from light, and the Jinn (spirits) from smokeless fire, and
He created Adam as has been described to you.”
(Hadith reported by Muslim)



Created out of “Nur” (Light), a spiritual being, whose
nature is different from that of the physical creations.

In their natural state, they cannot be seen by man, except
by Allah’s permission; or when they appear in the form of a
man by Allah’s permission.



 They do not have genders nor desires or needs like eating,
drinking, sleep, marriage etc. – but are created only to
carry out the commands of Allah.
 They do have intellection, bestowed with many powers
and abilities, but are loyal servants of Allah, such that they
will not disobey Him.



“And to Allah doth obeisance all that is in the heavens and
on earth whether moving (living) creatures or the angels:
for none are arrogant (before their Lord). They all revere
their Lord, high above them, and they do all that they are
commanded.”
(Qur’an: An-Nahlu: 16: 49-50)



“They are (but) servants raised to honour. They speak not
before He (Allah) speaks, and they act (in all things) by His
command. He (Allah) knows what is before them, and what
is behind them, and they offer no intercession except for
those who are acceptable, and they stand in awe and
reverence of His (glory).”
(Qur’an: Anbiya’: 21: 26-28)



Though they may have amazing powers, they are not to be
regarded as partners or associates to Allah, but are part of
this grand design of Creation planned by Allah, to function
in a certain way in accordance with His command or Way
(Sunnahtullah).



“Those (angels) who sustain the Throne (of Allah) and those
around it sing Glory and Praise to their Lord; believe in Him;
and implore forgiveness for those who believe:

"Our Lord! Thy reach is over all things in Mercy, and
Knowledge. Forgive, then, those who turn in repentance, and
follow Thy Path: and preserve them from the Penalty of the
Blazing Fire!”
(Qur’an: Ghafir: 40: 7)



“And, O our Sustainer, bring them into the gardens of
perpetual bliss which Thou hast promised them, together with
the righteous from among their forebears, and their spouses,
and their offspring - for, verily, Thou alone art almighty, truly
wise –and preserve them from [doing] evil deeds: for anyone
whom on that Day [of Judgment] Thou wilt have preserved
from [the taint of] evil deeds, him wilt Thou have graced with
Thy mercy: and that, that will be the triumph supreme!”
(Qur’an: Ghafir: 40: 8-9)



 Although many happenings in nature can be explained by
physical laws, these are only part of the Law willed by
Allah.



 They are instances in nature, occurrences which cannot be
fathomed by physics which baffles scientists. The scientists
may theorize or guess, but these could not actually be
substantiated by physics or empirical science.
 Muslims rely upon Revelation to explain, which attribute
these with the functions of the angels in the spiritual
realm.


“O ye who believe! Celebrate the praises of Allah, and do
this often; And glorify Him morning and evening. He it is
Who sends blessings on you, as do His angels (Malaa-ikah),
that He may bring you out from the depths of Darkness into
Light: and He is Full of Mercy to the Believers.”
(Qur’an: Ahzab: 33: 41-44)



 There are numerously countless number of Angels.

 In fact their numbers are so overwhelming numerous than
any other created beings . To explain the comparative
ratio of the angels to jinn, to man, some scholars gave their
guess of - 90 : 9 : 1 – but only Allah SWT knows the best.
 From what our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. have said, even
this ratio would seem to be under rated.



 The Prophet s.a.a.w. said:

“The sky (i.e. in the heaven above, everything) moves as it has
been decreed to move. There is not a foot-span in it except that
there is angel there, who bow and prostrate (to Allah)”
(Hadith reported by Ibn Asaakir)



 The Prophet s.a.a.w. said:

“There is never any people sitting at a gathering in which they engage
in the remembrance of Allah, except that they will be surrounded by
Angels and Mercy will enveloped them, and Allah will make mention of
them to those who are with Him. ”
(Hadith reported by Ibn Abi Syaibah)

 Then the Prophet s.a.a.w. recited this verse:

“(Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place
appointed "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service):
"And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!”
(Qur’an: Shaffat: 37: 164-166)



 For us Muslims, to buttress our believe in Allah, in His plan
and purpose of life on this earth , we are convinced that
ultimately such spiritual forces do affect this physical
existence in accordance with Allah’s decree upon them.



We are thus required to know 10 angels and their
functions for it has significance to our experience and
existence, and it relates or is directly linked to the
Message (Risaalah) of Islam, lest we fall into
accepting myths and false imaginations.



JIBRA-IL (Gabriel) a.s.

 Leader in the angelic world, mission primarily to bring

Revelations to the Prophets.

His other titles:

 RUH-HUL QUDDUS (the Holy spirit)

 RUH-HUL AMIIN (the Trusted spirit)



JIBRA-IL (Gabriel) a.s.

 This also refutes the Christian notion of Trinity and
clarify that they have mistaken the angel Jibra-il a.s. to be
a Divine entity within Trinitarian theology.



“Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and prophets
to Jibril (Gabriel) and Mikaa-il (Michael) -Lo! Allah is an
enemy to those who reject faith.”
(Qur’an: Baqarah: 2: 98)



MIKA-IL (Michael) a.s.

 One of the four most important angels of Allah, who acts
as supervisor in the angelic world; generally known as the
guardian spirit of land, sea and air; the angel of Providence
– to carry out what Allah has ordained to all His creation.



MIKA-IL (Michael) a.s.

 This is to dispel mankind’s mistaken believe in any power
or forces independent or rival to Allah – as paganistic
worship of spirits in nature.

*Remember, angels are obedient and loyal only to Allah.



ISRAA-FIL (Seraphim) a.s.

Another one of the four most important angels of Allah,
whose duty would be to blow the SWOOR (trumpet/siren)
to precede the end of the world and again during the Day
of Resurrection.

He is also in-charge of guarding the LAWH-AL MAH-FUDZ
(protected board of Decree) in the angelic world.




“Then when the Trumpet is blown, there will be no more
relationships between them that day, nor will one ask after
another! Then those whose balance (of good deeds) is
heavy― they will attain salvation:
But those whose balance is light, will be those who have lost
their souls; in Hell will they abide.”
(Qur’an: Mu’minun: 23: 101-103)



IZRAA’IL a.s.

who is also known as MALAA-IKAT-UL-MAUT (the Angel
of Death) who comes to every person at the hour of death
to take away his soul as determined by Allah s.w.t.,

who is also known as MALAA-IKAT-UL-MAUT (the Angel
of Death) who comes to every person at the hour of death
to take away his soul as determined by Allah s.w.t.,

Say: "The Angel of Death, put in charge of you, will (duly)
take your souls: then shall ye be brought back to your Lord."
(Qur’an: Sajda:32: 11)



RIDWAAN a.s.

The guardian Angel of Paradise, who will welcome
Believers destined for entrance to this “Abode of Peace
(Dar-as-Salaam)”, “the Garden of Paradise (Jan-nat-ul-
Firdaus), “the Garden of Bliss” (Jan-nat-un-Na-eem) – or
many other names it is referred to by Allah s.w.t. in the
Qur’an.



RIDWAAN a.s.

“And angels shall enter unto them from every gate (with the
salutation): "Peace unto you for that ye persevered in
patience! Now how excellent is the final Home!“
(Qur’an: Ra’ad: 13: 23-24)



MAALIK a.s.

The guardian Angel overall in-charge of Hell; with other
stern and fierce angels e.g. angel Zabaniyah, who will mete
out the punishment upon those who deserve them for
being unjust to themselves. Those who are sinners who
despaired and refused to seek the Mercy and Forgiveness
of Allah, while in this world.



MAALIK a.s.

“And We have set none but angels as
guardians of the Fire (Hell); “
(Qur’an: Mudatthir: 74: 31)

MAALIK a.s.

“O ye who believe! save yourselves and your families from a
Fire whose fuel is Men and Stones, over which are (appointed)
angels stern (and) severe who flinch not (from executing) the
Commands they receive from Allah, but do (precisely) what
they are commanded.”
(Qur’an: Tahrim:66:6)



“Behold two (guardian angels) appointed to learn (his doings)
learn (and note them), one sitting on the right and one on the
left. Not a word does he utter but there is a sentinel by him,
ready (to note it).”
(Qur’an: Qaf: 50: 17-18)



ROQEEB a.s.

 The guardian Angel assigned to every person whose task is
to record every good deeds (even intention towards doing
good, is counted), in the individual Book of Record which
each person are assigned with.



‘AATID a.s.
Together with Roqeeb, ‘Aatid a.s. are the guardian Angels
assigned to every person whose task is to record every
sinful deeds (which a person did and does not repent nor
seek forgiveness from), in the individual Book of Record
which each person are assigned with.

Both Roqeeb and ‘Aatid a.s. are also referred to in Al-Qur’an as “the
Noble Writers” (Kiraa-man Kaa-tibeen)


MUNGKAR a.s.
NAAKIR a.s.

Together, both these Angels will come upon a person in
his grave in Barzakh (the intermediary realm) just after
death, to interrogate or trial man with the preliminaries.

 In this realm, the person will await for the Final Day of
Judgement, either amongst the successful ones in state of
comfort and enjoy a foretaste of Paradise, or suffer
torments in the grave.



JINN (SPIRITS) ARE NOT ANGELS,
AND THEY ARE TOTALLY A DIFFERENT CREATION.

 They were created from “smokeless fire”, thus have a
different nature. There are many types of Jinn, yet we are
told by Allah s.w.t. that they do not have any power over
mankind except people who chose to obey or submit to
them.




 Although unseen by man, they too are created beings,
commanded and are being tested by Allah s.w.t. They
possess free-will, they marry and reproduce, have families
and communities, have needs like human.




 JINN are descended from Iblis (Diabolis), the arch-enemy
of Adam a.s. who vowed to lead mankind astray from the
Straight Path.




“Behold! We said to the angels "Bow down to Adam": they bowed
down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the
Command of his Lord. Will ye then take him and his progeny as
protectors rather than Me? And they are enemies to you! Evil would
be the exchange for the wrongdoers! “
(Qur’an: Kahfi: 18: 50)




 There are Jinn who are believers, but many are determine
to carrying out or fulfil the evil vow of Iblis - to tempt and
lead every descendent of Adam a.s. away from the path of
Allah. They, the evil ones, are called “Shaythan” (Satan or
Devil).


“ `There were some foolish ones among us, who used to utter
extravagant lies against Allah; `But we do think that no man
or spirit (Jinn) should say aught that is untrue against Allah.
`True, there were persons among mankind who took shelter
with persons among the Jinns, but they increased them in
folly.”

(Qur’an: Jinn: 72: 4-6)



“When thou dost read the Qur'an, seek Allah’s protection
from Satan the Rejected one.

No authority has he over those who believe and put their
trust in their Lord.

His authority is over those only who take him as patron and
who join partners with Allah.”

(Qur’an: an-Nahl: 16: 98-100)



Remember, Allah assigns His angels over us:

“For each (such person) there are (angels) in succession,
before and behind him: they guard him by command of
Allah.”
(Qur’an: Ra’ad: 13: 11)


Remember, Allah assigns His angels over us:

“And your Lord says: "Call on (or supplicate to) Me; I will answer
your (Prayer): But those who are too arrogant to serve Me will
surely find themselves in Hell in humiliation!“
(Qur’an: Ghafir: 40: 60)

DU’A (SUPPLICATION) TAUGHT BY IMAM HABIB ‘ABDULLAH ALHADDAD
IN KITAB “ “ based on As-SUNNAH.

Allah SWT has given this Du’a , also as general guideline:

ROB-BI - A-’UU-DZU-BIKA MIN HA-MA-ZAA TISH-SHA-YAA-TWII-NI,
WA - A- ’UU-DZU BIKA ROB-BI – AN-YAH-DWU-RUUN


DU’A (SUPPLICATION) TAUGHT BY IMAM HABIB ‘ABDULLAH ALHADDAD
IN KITAB “ “ based on As-SUNNAH.

Allah SWT has given this Du’a , also as general guideline:

“O my Lord (Allah)! I seek refuge in You from the (evil)
whispering of satan, and I seek refuge in You from their
ever being present with me.”


DU’A


DU’A
Allaa-hum-ma -in-naka sal-latw-twa ‘alay-naa ‘a-duw-
wan ba-swee-ron bi- ’u-yuu-bi-naa,

Mutw-twali-’an ‘alaa - ‘au-ro-tinaa, ya-raa-naa huwa wa-
qo-bii-luhu min hai - thu laa-na-raa-hum,

Allaa-hum-ma fa - ai-yis-hu min-naa kamaa ai-yas-tahu
min roH-matik, Wa qon- nitw-hu min-naa- kamaa qon-
natw - tahu min - ‘af-wik, Wa- ba-’id bai-nanaa - wa bai-
nahu kamaa - ba-’ad - ta – bai -nahu - wa- bai-na - jan-
natik, In-naka ‘a-laa - kul-li shai - ’inq - qo-deer.


DU’A
“O Allah! You have place upon us an enemy who can see our
privacy and our shortcomings, whereas he and his kind spy upon
us from places which we are unable to see them.

O Allah! Disappoint their hopes towards us, just as You have made
them disappointed in hoping to get Your Mercy (Blessings).

Make them despair (in attaining their plans) towards us, just as
You made them despair from seeking Your Forgiveness.

Keep them away (distance) from us, just as You made them to be
far-away (distance) from Your Paradise.

Verily, You (O Allah) is Most Powerful over everything.
