The ministry activity of the king part 3
1. The Ministry Activity of the King – Part 3 The Words & Works of Jesus Mathew 4:18 – 23 - 25
2. The main thrust of the beginning of the of the ministry of Jesus Christ of our Lord Jesus Christ was to establish his being the Messiah. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14) This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. (John 2:11)
3. And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done? (John 7:31) If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. (John 10:37, 38) Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. (John 14:11) Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
4. Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know. (Acts 2:22) The whole purpose for which Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were written was to conclude that He was God, not just another man. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. (John 12:47)
5. The King started his ministry . . . 1.) . . . At the right time (Mathew 4:12) 2.) . . . At the right place (Mathew 4:12) 3.) . . . With the right proclamation (Mathew 4:17) 4.) . . . With the right partners (Mathew 4:18) 5.) . . . With the right plan (Mathew 4:23)
6. - Jesus plan was to establish his Messiahship by his words & his work. - Mathew chapter 5 to chapter 9 is an expansion of verse number 23 (Chapter 5 - 7 focusing on His Words and Chapters 8 & 9 focusing on his works) - “Jesus went about . . . “ – implying continuous action in the past tense . (Constantly going about) - “ . . .teaching in their synagogues”
7. 1.) His Words (vs. 23) - “ . . .teaching in their synagogues & preaching the good news about the Kingdom of God”
8. - The synagogue was central to the Jewish way of life. It is a place of where the Jews conducted their worship, education, politics, social and economic affairs. - As a visiting teacher/rabbi, he would take advantage of this opportunity to reach out to people in the synagogue.
9. 2.) His Works (vs. 23, 24) - “ . . . and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.”
10. - The goal of Jesus in healing people was not to draw people or draw large crowds but rather to affirm his divine nature and so that people might get a foretaste of the Kingdom. (Just as John the Baptist did not do any miracles yet people are drawn to him – John 10:41) - The manifestation of miracles by Jesus was also necessary because it was prophesied that the Messiah will do miracles. (Mathew 11:2-5) - In vs. 24 Jesus healed those possessed with devils, the lunatics and those with palsy. These diseases were chosen by Mathew to represent the needs of man, the spiritual, the mental and the physical.
11. Six features of Jesus Healing ministry duplicated only by his apostles. 1.) He healed by Word & touch 2.) He healed instantaneously 3.) He healed totally 4.) He healed everybody 5.) He healed organic diseases, real diseases 6.) He resurrected dead people
