HISTORY
The Confederation Bridge was built to provide a
easy road transportation between New
Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Back in
the late 1950s all the way to the early 1960s
both governments wanted a way to get to each
other without using a train or a airplane. They
thought about a ferry or a steam engine. But
eventually they said lets build a bridge

This bridge has many concrete pillars
holding archways that are dug all the
way to the sea bed using a device called
a Svanen. Then all those pillars and
archways are put to work and hold a
gigantic 8 mile bridge.

OVERCOME THESE
The engineers faced a problem where
there bridge was going to be built on a
lobster habitat. They overcame this
problem by talking to marine engineers
and building around the habitat in a

• Three people died well building the confederation bridge.
• It took 22,683 men to fully construct the confederation
bridge.
