  4. 4. Publishing My target audience are mainly females aged between 13-21 similar to the target audience of magazines such as We Love Pop!, Billboard, and Top of the Pops. My magazine targets a mainstream rather than a niche audience. Publishers such as IPC Media might be interested in adding my magazine to the list of their titles because the genre of my magazine is pop and the only music magazine IPC Media produces is NME which is an indie music magazine. My magazine would be different because it would have different target audience and this will expand their range of readers. In order to distribute my media product to a larger and mainstream audience, I will have distribute my product to a large retailer such as WHSmith, supermarkets such as Morrisons, Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys, and most local newsagents.
  5. 5. DistributionPublishers such as IPC Media might be interested in adding my magazine to the list of their titles because the genre of my magazine is pop and the only music magazine IPC Media produces is NME which is an indie music magazine. My magazine would be different because it would have different target audience and this will expand their range of readers. There are a range of magazine titles owned by IPC Media such as Golf Monthly, Look, Now, Teen Now. NME is the music magazine they produce. They have one distributor and this is done to reach out to different types of readers by producing a magazine for each genre that the readers will be interested in.IPC Media have a good reputation as NME is a popular magazine and their strong reputation will be an important factor to make sure that my product is to the highest possible standard. My magazine targets a mainstream rather than a niche audience and this will not affect how the company works as they already appeal to a mainstream rather than a niche audience.
  6. 6. Advertising Products such as Billboard and We Love Pop! are advertised on social networking such as Facebook and Twitter, online websites, TV channels, and posters. Considering that my target audience are a mainstream audience rather than a niche audience, these methods of advertisement are effective to reaching out to the age group and the audience interested in pop. I think social networking such as Facebook and Twitter are the most effective method of advertisement as my target audience will regularly use these websites and it is also free. It will also target my audience directly. TV music channels such as MTV will also be effective as the latest and current music played will suit my target audience. For my product, my audience is also mainstream. Therefore these advertising strategies would be easy to apply to my product.
  7. 7. Distributing My ProductIn order to distribute my media product to a larger and mainstream audience, I will have distribute my product to a large retailer such as WHSmith, supermarkets such as Morrisons, Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys, and most local newsagents.I would also provide an online subscription service in every issue which will allow readers to receive the next issue via post rather than buying it from a retailer. However the price will be different as the posting and packaging cost will be added to the original price. But sometimes subscriptions are much cheaper than buying it from a retailer because the subscriber is committed to buying worth of issues. Also the change and emergence of Web 2.0 will make it easier to distribute and advertise my product online to a larger audience.
