What is WIKI?

 WIKI is a piece of server software that allows
  users to freely create and edit web page
  content using any web browser.
 WIKI supports hyperlinks and has simple text
  syntax for creating new pages and cross links
  between internal pages.
HISTORY OF WIKI

                 A WIKI is a word taken from
 Hawaiian language , in that the word WIKI
 refers to ‘FAST’. It is a interactive web
 site, which is a specialized web server
 generating dynamic pages from the results
 of visitors edit.
               It was discovered and developed
 by Ward Cunningham in 1993 for the purpose
 of being used as a composition system.
WHY WIKI?

            Wiki is fully editable websites, are easily
 accessible, require no software and allow its
 contributors, in this case students, to feel a sense
 of responsibility and ownership.
         Students are used to the WebCT based
 university Easy-learning environment .A full
 analysis of the results is presenting that wikis
 are recommended for improving the platform in
 an effort to employ wikis and utilize them to
 their full and absolute potential.
PRINCIPLES OF WIKI

The main principles of WIKI are
 Open
 Incremental
 Organic
 Mundane
 Universal
 Observable
 Unified and Tolerant.
APPLICATIONS OF WIKI

 Simple office software.
            -word processors
            -online spread sheets
            -presentation tools
 Project management.
             -video editing
 Point - of - sale.
MERITS OF WIKI

 Easy access – very convenient.
 Easy to view others work.
 Fast download.
 Signature and time stamp facility.
 Relaxed environment.
DEMERITS OF WIKI

 Simultaneous editing.
 No ‘new message’ or ‘new modification’ alert.
 Limited HTML functions.
 User interface.
 Unintuitive login – sends user back to main
  page only.
CONCLUSION

 The idea of the WIKI, were willing to embrace
  and generally found it easy to use.
 The simplest online data base that could
  possibly work.
