2. The United States of America The USA is a country consisting of 50 States and lies mostly in North America between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans.

3. Unemployment Rates

4. What is the Issue Unemployment in the USA is today one of the biggest problems facing the country. The national unemployment rate is currently at 10% is at its highest ever reached since the great depression. Currently, more than 15.3 million Americans are unemployed of which 6.1 million have been jobless for 27 weeks or longer. The unemployment situation is also increasing the poverty rate in America.

5. Social Impacts If you are unemployed you are not communicating with as many people as you are usually communicating with. For example, if you work as a store clerk and you are now jobless, you will not communicate with as many people because you will more likely be at home for most of the time. If you don’t have a job that means you are not communicating with fellow employees and are not interacting socially with other people not just employees. That also means that you are not developing your social abilities as a result of not having a job.

6. Economic Impacts If people are unemployed that means that they are not working and contributing to the country’s economy. When people are unemployed they are not producing the goods and services that they would be producing if they were employed. These goods and services that they would be producing would contribute millions of dollars to the economy. For example, the American company GM(General Motors) has laid of many factory workers which means that less cars are being produced and sold each year. These cars would have otherwise been sold and would have contributed to the USA’s economy. This means that unemployment has a direct affect on the USA’s economy. Often the government spends billions of dollars trying to create jobs that would not be needed if people were employed. The money that is spent would otherwise be spent in other areas such as developing a better healthcare system.

7. Political Impacts Unemployment often puts stress on the president and the country's people are often angry and begin to dislike the government and blame it for what is happening. Unemployment may affect the presidential elections of 2012 and Obama might not continue to be president during his second term if the unemployment rate does not drop. This will directly affect the White House and who is in it.

Environmental Impacts When the unemployment rate is so high in one of the worlds greatest superpowers(USA), the president will focus mainly on fixing this problem and lowering the unemployment rate will be his main priority. He will not focus on the climate and global warming. This means that global warming will likely get worse until the unemployment situation is solved.

9. Other Impacts When the unemployment rate so high (10%), many people will not have jobs which means they have no income. This will not only affect those people as individuals but in most cases that will affect their families. They will not be able to feed and educate their children and provide sufficient health care needs. A high unemployment rate also means that more people will be below the poverty line and more people will be at risk from infectious diseases.

10. Solutions One solution would be educating students about a broader range of subjects so that they would be able to work in many different fields. This will help them because even if they are laid off, they will be able to find a new job more easily. Another solution would be an earlier retirement age. This would create more jobs for the younger population and allow more people to have jobs since there are more people under the age of 50 than there are people over the age of 50. The government could create new industries to create more jobs for unemployed people. An example of a new growing industry would be the climate industry.
