3. Environmental effects and Possible Dangers
Ultraviolet is a very dangerous type of light due to the fact that when your at
the beach or just hanging around outside it is the cause of sunburn, and if
you let it get serious by not wearing anything to protect your skin from it like
sunscreen then a huge problem can occur, the problem is skin cancer.
So when people tell you to wear the sunscreen you should do it unless you
want to risk having serious problems with your skin
The most dangerous thing that UV can
cause is a thing called malignant
melanoma which is caused by indirect
DNA damage.

being seen in UV light
What it can be used for
UV is not all bad, in modern times it is used in
astronomy because very hot object give off UV
radiation, but due to the fact that our ozone
layer blocks most of the UV frequencies before
it can reach the telescopes on earth. So most
of the UV observations are done up in space.
UV is also used in things like detecting fire and
in fluorescent lamps because the lamps make
UV radiation by ionising low pressure mercury.
UV is also used in lasers and one of the most
helpful things UV does is security, in order to
stop hackers and counterfeiters, on some
credit cards there is a watermark and it’s only
visible while looking at it through a UV light.
