This document discusses start up breakages on ring spinning frames and methods to control them. It defines start up breakages as thread breaks that occur after starting the machine or after doffing bobbins. Potential causes include issues with drafting timing, back winding, under winding, traveller settings, doffing practices, start speed, suction, gear meshing, undrafted material, and more. Methods are provided to measure start up breakage percentage and suggestions for remedies like changing travelers periodically, adjusting ring and spindle settings, checking material quality, and optimizing climate and cleaning procedures.
2. INTRODUCTION
The Ring Spinning machine is designed to:
• Attenuate the roving until the required fineness is achieved.
• To impart strength to the fiber strand by twisting it.
• To wind up the resulting yarn in a form suitable for storage, transportation and for further
processing.
4. STARTUP BREAKAGES IN RING SPINNING
MACHINE
• Start up breakages are one of the disturbing elements in decreasing
the efficiency of ring spinning machine.
• It happens after starting the machine and after every doffing.
• It can be defined as number of thread broken up by the machine at
start up.
5. REASONS FOR STARTUP BREAKAGES
• Delay Draft timing
• Fan on Delay timing
• Back Winding
• Under Winding
• Lappet Setting
• Workers Doffing Practice
• Start Speed
6. OTHER REASONS
• Suction not proper
• Meshing of gears not proper.
• Undrafted material
• Traveller jammed with fly etc.
• Unsuitable traveller type
• Uneven spinning tension
• Spindle speed too high ,yarn strength unsufficient
• Too long running time of traveller
• Poor condition of ring
• Balloon stability too slowly built up
• Because of reasons such as slubs, foreign particles etc.
• Poor machinery and improper cleaning of machinery
• High curling tendency of the yarn
• Climatic conditions not optimum
7. HOW TO MEASURE START UP BREAKAGES
When a doff completes, the lappet rail is moved back and it becomes
easy for the workers to doff the complete bobbins and replace it with
the empty ones’, now the machine is pushed on and the lappet rail
again comes back to its original (horizontal) position and now the
machine is stopped means no winding of yarn is allowed to be made on
the empty bobbins and we count the number of ends down from both
sides of the machine i.e. Left and Right.
Now we allow the machine to run for a moment and then again we
count the ends down being done by the machine and we get start-up
breakages for each and every machine.
8. MATHEMATICAL EQUATION TO CALCULATE
STARTUP BREAKAGES
No. of ends down before starting of m/c at doff = H
No. of ends down after starting of m/c = H
Start-up breakage percentage = ( H – G)*100/1200
(1200 is total no of spindles)
9. REMEDIES AND SUGGESTIONS
• Change the traveler periodically generally after 2-3 days
• Ring is changed after 1 or 2 years, when ring is changed there should be no
idle spindle in the ring frame.
• Try another traveler form or profile
• Increase yarn twist or reduce spindle speed
• Check raw material composition
• Poor condition of rings
• Poor centering of rings
• Increase drafting systems start up delay
• Maintain START SPEED ,INITIAL SPEED
10. REMEDIES AND SUGGESTION
Long snarling setting(up and down) should be optimum
Break pressure should be optimum(1.5-2 kg)
Cleaning must be done carefully and properly.
Check raw material composition
Optimize climate, adjust blower nozzles
