1. Directions This paper must be a minimum of 1100 words
DirectionsThis paper must be a minimum of 1100 words and not exceed 1300 words. This
paper is a formal ESSAY and should be written as such. Do not write a bunch of short
answers to the essay questions. Instead, start off with an introduction paragraph and a
thesis statement. Then address your thesis statement making sure to address all parts of the
essay question. Close your essay with a conclusion.Giving me a first publish and/or fewer
words than the minimum word count is unacceptable. The point of this assignment is to
demonstrate your understanding of the course materials, it is like an exam. Therefore, all of
your citations, references, discussion, etc. should come from this course – I will minus
points if you use sources outside of the class. This paper is NOT about your opinion, it’s
about you demonstrating to me that you read, watched and understood the course
materials.Citations and quotes should come directly from the original readings NOT my
power points (you should actually READ the course materials instead of having me do all of
the work for you).Do not rely only on Okamura’s introduction and Chapter 1 to answer
these questions – that is a general overview. He delves deeply into each individual issue, in
individual chapters. Refer to those chapters. If your entire essay is based on the Okamura’s
first chapter only, I will minus points. See the attached “Midterm Useful Course Materials”
for more guidance. You may use whatever style of citation you wish.See attached
information on what should be cited, how your paper should be formatted and the rubric
for grading papers.SEE THE “MIDTERM USEFUL COURSE MATERIALS” ATTACHED BELOW.
Seriously!!!Essay Exam QuestionHow is race and ethnic inequality still a social problem in
Hawai’i? Be sure to discuss how ethnicity is linked with occupational status, income level,
and educational attainment in the islands. Be sure to consider the ways that immigration
and racism are linked and how inter-ethnic relations have changed over time. Finally, which
sociological theoretical perspective (from Week 3) do you think best explains race/ethnic
relations in Hawai’i today and why? Incorporate into your discussion some of the following
sociological terms and concepts (do not just cut and paste these terms in your paper the
way I have them here. They should not be capitalized at all times!):Race vs. Ethnicity (Be
sure you use these terms correctly in your paper – remember Japanese is NOT a race, it’s an
ethnicity. Since we are thinking critically about ETHNICITY in Hawai’i do not speak
generically about Asians or Pacific Islanders.)Cultural Assimilation vs. Cultural Pluralism vs.
