Intelligent Transportation system

  1. INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM (ITS) FOR SMART CITY SOLAPUR. PRESENTED BY- BASAVARAJ P. UNDER GUIDANCE OF- PROF.ASHOK KUMAR SIR. SMARTER SOLUTION FOR BETTER TOM0RROW
  2. SMARTER SOLUTION FOR BETTER TOMORROW  Government to spend INR 1,400 crore (US$ 226 million) over the next two years on incentives and subsidies for makers and buyers of electric vehicles as part of an effort to have at least six million electric vehicles on Indian roads by 2020  Delhi to be the first city in India to install intelligent traffic lighting systems  The use of bio-fuels being encouraged with an ethanol-blending program to curb India’s oil imports  Road accidents in developing countries have declined even as vehicle sales have risen; while Indian fatalities have soared by 50 percent in the last decade.  Development of green highways
  3. INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM (ITS) “Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is the application of computer, electronics, and communication technologies and management strategies in an integrated manner to provide traveler information to increase the safety and efficiency of the road transportation systems.”
  4. ITS Applications Solapur city traffic problems can be solved by using following ITS applications. Wireless Traffic Control System Public Transportation System (SMC Bus System) Accidents Contolling (Target of No accidents ) Revenue/Toll collection (ETC) Routes Guidance & Traffic updates (GPS) Advance vehicle control and enhance public safety systems (Speed detectors, sensors etc.)
  5. Wireless Traffic Signal Control  This service collects the real time data from the transportation system, processes it into usable information, and uses it to determine the optimum assignment of right-of-way to vehicles and pedestrians.  This helps in improving the flow of traffic by giving preference to transit and other high occupancy vehicles or by adjusting the signal timing to current traffic conditions.  The information collected by the Traffic Control service is also diss - eminated for use by many other user services.
  6. Route Guidance & Traffic Updates  This service provides information to the travellers with a suggested route to reach a specified destination, along with simple instructions on upcoming turns and other obstructions.  This also provides travellers of all modes the real-time information about the transportation system, including traffic conditions, road closures, and the status and schedule of transit systems.  The benefits of this service are reduced delay and drivers stress levels particularly in an unfamiliar area.
  7. Public Transportation Operations This group of service is concerned with improving the public transportation systems and encouraging their use. Fig shows different public transportation facilities. This group is divided in following services which are described as below Facilitating the Development of Urban Bus Systems Improving the Operational Environment of Urban Bus Systems Providing a Healthy Operational Environment of Mass Rapid Transit Systems Enhancing the Service Quality of Rapid Transit Systems
  8. SMC BUS MANAGEMENT USING ITS GPS
  9. Public Transportation Management This public service collects data through advanced communications and information systems to improve the operations of vehicles and facilities and to automate the planning and management functions of public transit systems. How ITS is applicable: Global Positioning System(GPS) to monitor movement of buses. GPS-enabled electronic ticketing machines for monitoring revenue collection. Public information system through monitors at bus- stop,SMS,internet & mobile apps.
  10. E-TOLL COLLECTION This application area includes interface between toll or parking management facility and vehicles that would pay the toll or fee. This interface supports reading vehicle and processing electronic identification and associated account information. Toll can be paid through SMART CARDS By using electronic toll collector (ETC) System.
  11. TOLL COLLECTION (ITS SENSOR)
  12. Goal: Enhance Public Safety VISION Improvement of travelers safety by providing advance warning by implementing crash counter measures GOAL Enhance public safety OBJECTIVE Promote safety of transportation facility Reduce crashes on freeways and streets FUNCTIONS  Monitoring of rest areas.  Provide public safety at park and ride lots  Coordinate emergency response using appropriate agency  Implement crash counter measures at high accident locations.  Implement work zone safety measures.  Install traffic signs signals and road marking.  Remove obstruction from the incident scene.
  13. ACCIDENT CONTROL
  14. OBSERVATIONS ON TRAFFIC RULES  It detects the spot speed of the perticular vehicle using RADAR sensor rays.  Who drive the vehicles more speedily than allowable limit then they will pay fine.  If the load is beyond the limit of road then user can pay fines.
  15. Integrating ITS into Transportation planning Integrating ITS into transportation planning process require overcoming some obstacles and some changes in the business practices of many institutions. The major challenges in main streaming ITS into everyday operations of transportation agencies are:  Institutional coordination and cooperation for sharing information and data  Technical compatibility among ITS projects  Human resource needs and training  Financial constraints and opportunities to involve the private sector.
