3. Training Session Objective:
What: Improve preventing the opponent from playing forward in our central
channels between our midfield and defensive line.
Where: In the Midfield Third
Who: Primary 6, 8,10 Secondary 4, 5,2,3
When: During build-up when the opponent’s 6 is on the ball and facing our goal
Why: Our positioning wasn’t helping prevent build-up. In order to do so we need
to stay compact and utilize pressure, cover, balance to prevent build-up in the
central channels between our defensive lines
4. Warmup
Exercise Rules/Organization: 4v4 but you must receive the ball in the
endzone for a point. You cannot dribble into the endzone. All restarts
are from the ground. IF your team wins a corner then you can start
with the ball from then edge of your endzone.
Focus team
Team function: Defending
Objective: Be aware of players running behind you and how you can
adjust your positioning to prevent opponent build-up
TTPS: Pressure/Cover/Balance, Make it Compact
Player Actions: Keep it compact, Stay Involved
Opponent team
Team function: Attacking
Objective: Find runs behind defenders and use diagonal passing
options to advance the ball and receive the ball in the endzone.
TTPS: Triangulate to Create Passing Options, Varying Runs in Behind
Player Actions: Pass or dribble forward, create passing options

5. Describe the Orientation Phase of your main activity (exercise 1)
I want the opponent to create a situation where their 6 has the ball
looking to play in between our defensive and midfield lines. To create this
situation I will communicate to the opponent it’s important that when the
6 has the ball facing forward that the other two midfielders try and both
make varying runs to find space in between the lines in order to receive
the ball. While in those gaps the 8 and 10 need to triangulate with the 6
to create multiple passing options
List TTPs and describe how you want the opponent to play to create the identified situation
6. Exercise 1
Insert diagram of exercise 1 Exercise Rules/Organization:
7v6 Playing to three mini-goals on either side. Restarts from the
sideline are normal throw-ins, any restart from the ball going out over
the end line starts with the attacking team’s 6 receiving a ball from
either sub.
ORIENTATION PHASE
Opponent team
Team function: Attacking
Objective: Play forward in the central channels to receive the ball in
between defensive lines during build up
TTPS: Make varying runs in behind, triangulate to create passing lanes
Player Actions: Pass or dribble forward, create passing options

7. Describe the Learning Phase of your main activity (exercise 1)
I want our team to first of all stay compact in the midfield to prevent
build-up in between our defensive line in those central channels. This
should leave our 10 or 8 to pressure the ball while our other teammates
are covering and balanced. This should prevent the opponents from
receiving the ball in-between our defensive gap with space to then build
into our defensive third.
List TTPs and describe how you want the focus team to play to solve/improve the identified situation.
8. Exercise 1
Insert diagram of same graphic of exercise 1 Exercise Rules/Organization:
7v6 Playing to three mini-goals on either side. Restarts from the
sideline are normal throw-ins, any restart from the ball going out over
the end line starts with the attacking team’s 6 receiving a ball from
either sub.
LEARNING PHASE
Focus team
Team function: Defending
Objective: To prevent the build-up of opponents in central channels
between our defensive lines so we can win the ball and play forward
TTPS: Stay Compact, Pressure/Cover/Balance.
Player Actions: Keep it compact, Stay Involved

9. Describe the Implementation Phase of your main activity (exercise 1)
If I see our team adjust correctly and prevent the opponent’s build-
up when their 6 is unsuccessful in paying through the central
channels. I should see the opponents having to play into pressure or
out wide much more than before and that will show that the desired
behavior is achieved.
What will indicate the improved behavior of both teams related to training session objective?
