VISUALIZING SOLID SHAPES

INTRODUCTION OF SHAPES
Plane shapes have two measurements like length and breadth and therefore they are called
two dimensional shapes whereas a solid object has three measurements like length, breadth
and height or depth. Hence, they are called three dimensional shapes.
Two dimensional and three dimensional figure can also be named as 2-d and 3-d. triangle
and rectangle etc…..Are called 2-d shapes. Cube cuboid are called 3-d shapes.
SOLID SHAPES
WHAT ARE SOLID SHAPES?
Solid shapes are classified by their regularity, how many faces, edges and vertices they have,
and the shape of their faces. Faces are flat sides on a solid shape. Edges are the straight
locations where two faces come together. A vertex is a pointy place where more than two
faces meet, according to CK-12. Some solid shapes only have curves and irregularities
instead of faces, edges and vertices. One example is the sphere. Some shapes have a
combination of faces and curved parts, such as cylinders and cones.
BRIEF DISCUSSION OF FEW SOLID
SHAPES
CUBE
A cube is a region of space formed by six
identical square faces joined along their
edges.Three edges join at each corner to
form a vertex. The cube can also be called
a regular hexahedron. It is one of the five
regular polyhedrons, which are also
sometimes referred to as the Platonic
solids.
CUBOID
A cuboid is a convex polyhedron bounded
by six quadrilateral faces, whose
polyhedral graph is the same as that of a
cube. While mathematical literature refers
to any such polyhedron as a cuboid,[1]
other sources use "cuboid" to refer to a
shape of this type in which each of the
faces is a rectangle
CUBE CUBOID
CONE
a cone is a solid object that one gets when
one rotates a right triangle around one of its
two short sides, the cone's axis. The disk
made by the other short side is called the
base, and the point of the axis which is not
on the base is the cone's apex or vertex.
CYLINDER
the surface formed by the points at a fixed
distance from a given straight line called the
axis of the cylinder. It is one of the most
basic curvilinear geometric shapes.
CONE CYLINDER
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 2-D AND 3-D
SHAPES
2-D SHAPES
• Two-dimensional shapes have
dimensions, such as length and width
• Any shape that only has a surface area is a
2-D shape
3-D SHAPES
• three-dimensional shapes have an
additional dimension, such as height
• shapes with volume are 3-D shapes.
