Q2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts (DVD didgipak, Magazine advert) ?
1. (2) HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE
COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN
AND ANCILLARY TEXTS
(DVD, DIGIPAK, MAGAZINE ADVERT)?
2. MY IDEA ON MY MUSIC VIDEO
• I had the idea of basing it mostly in a location that looks urban and Brick
Lane was the best place to set the story of the video. As the song is also
R&B the graffiti theme and use of bold and exotic colours helped make
it look ‘hip’ and urban to match the costumes and the genre of the
music.
3. WHY I CHOSE THIS?
• I chose this theme for my music video because I had this imagery in my
head to set it in a graffiti background to establish a ‘hip’ and urban feel,
which mostly connotates around black people as we are categorized as
being ‘hip’ and ‘street’ and since the song is about love, I thought about
having a girl fall in love with a guy who she dances with. All to create
this ‘young black love’ image for the music video.
4. HAIR AND MAKE UP
• I decided to choose the stereotypical way of how young black teenagers
are dressed. Tino’s character mostly wore ripped jeans, Nike trainers, a
du-rag, a bomber jacket and a rucksack. For my character she wears a
mixture of outfits, one was an oversized red hoodie with jeans and puma
trainers, a tracksuit with a pair of black Puma trainers, hooped earrings
and a rucksack, an oversized jersey, white jeans, blue Puma trainers, a
revealing black dress with shimmering make up, a crop top with black
jeans, afro puffs and a white cardigan and a black bomber jacket with
white jeans and an olive green crop top.
5. MY DIGIPAK
• To be honest I did not have any inspiration from
another existing artist to design my digipak, it all
came together based on my own creative skills and
how I saw in my head how it should look.
• The idea I had going for the digipak was to have
me posing for the front cover with the title of the
album “Only You” in a bold swirly handwritten font
to make it girly and stand out whilst the name of
the artist is kept quite curvy but simple so I could
draw the audiences attention mostly to the name of
the album, which is also the song. Then to include a
series of photos of just some art work alone and me
posing in front of them. Then to conclude was to
have another photo of me posing in front of
another graffiti art but will all the name of the
songs, the barcode, record company as so fourth.
6. MY ADVERT AND DIGIPAK
• For my advert I decided to still include a graffiti background but use the
background where mine and Tino’s character were dancing and to pose in
one of the dance moves we were doing in the music video, as well as
incorporating the bold swirly handwritten font. My aim was to make my
music video, digipak and advert look similar so that the if the audience
saw my music video and was shown either my advert or digipak they will
automatically know that it belongs to the my music video. All through the
use of theme of graffiti, font and costume.

14. WHAT THE RESULTS MEAN?
• From the overall results I can see overall my music video advert and
digipak all together was successful and at a high standard. The majority
of people liked my work seeing that I got an average mark of 4.5 out of
5 which is unbelievable. The type of research in which I used was
quantitative as it was yes and no answers however my rating out of 5 is
qualitative research.
15. ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK
• One question I asked was “Would you say there should be any
improvements made to the video or not?” I got all the comments
together and made a word collage.
