2. One of the main
reasons to buy
the magazine.
This is right next
to the name of
the magazine at
the top so it cant
be missed. Its in
yellow so it
clashes with the
red jump suit and
the word
“Kerrang”
The main story matches
the cover The yellow
outline of the bands name
clashes with the mainly red
theme. This would make
fans of the band see it and
want to buy it instantly.

inside the
magazine
A much smaller story, still made it on
the magazine but isn’t really eye
catching its hard to see, nut loyal
readers will read cover to cover and
wont miss this
Bar code in the bottom left corner,
out of the way of everything
Smaller story's along
the side, if the main
story hasn’t convinced
you to buy, there is
more information about
all the other story's
there are in the
magazine
A preview to a tribute to Ryan
Dunn. Covering story's outside
music, but story's that appeal
to the same type of audience
such as a show like “Jackass”
Yellow text
used to stand
out, also the
font is more
professional,
making the
potential buyer
interested
The word “Posters” in
yellow text to stand out,
this instantly tells the
readers that there are
free posters inside
The lead singer of Slipknot is I the front cover as the band had just
made their return at the time. His costume is the same as the one
he wares on stage, he's holding a microphone showing people
that don’t know, he's the lead singer, The picture has been eddied
to make is jump suit redder, to fit with the magazines theme. He is
placed over the name of the magazine, symbolising that his story
is very important
3. Name of the magazine is at the
top and almost unnoticeable.
The name of the genera of
music is where the magazine
name usually is, this is because
it’s a special edition and doing
this will draw the fans eyes to
the magazine easier.
3 of the biggest lead singers
in the “Nu Metal” genre are
on the front of the magazine
so fans will see them and be
interested. Even if they don’t
like one band they may like
another. Or if they don’t like
any of them then they may
like other bands inside, so
there are more bands listed
at the bottom. There are also
pictures below that
advertising posters featured
in the magazine.
The three band members are
dressed as they would on
stage. For example Fred Durst
is wearing his signature red
hat, Chester Bennington is
wearing his bracelets and
showing off his iconic tattoos
and Corey Taylor is dressed in
full jumpsuit and mask. Each
band is different and all of
their styles come through in
this picture
Yellow text on a red background
contrasts each other making the
bands names stand out more.
The font is a street art styled
graffiti font that fits in with the
genre perfectly
The background is white witch is simple
and therefore makes everything else
stand out more. Drawing potential
customers eyes to the magazine
This font is bold and is a
different colour from the
rest of the text on the
page. Doing this makes it
stand out more, and
draws the readers eyes
to the free posters inside
“All new interviews” could
mean anything, this makes the
customers interested
This is at the to of the
page because its in a bright eye
catching red font, it advertised what's
in the magazine if you buy it.
4. Existing Product
Title is in the classic font
people are used to. The
text is a dark yellow
Nothing is obscuring the
view of the name of the
magazine even though
the cover is quite action
packed
Showing the reader what's
inside, showing that this is
a special edition. Making
the reader know its
special
A lot of the buzzwords
including the “King Of The
Road” Logo and the title are
the same yellowish colour,
this lets the costumers
know that everything in this
colour is important
information. Its also stands
out on a dark background
such as this one.
Action shots like this are
common in this
magazine, however this
magazine features a
skater in the air with
flames behind him, other
than the fact that this is a
cool shot, the fire really
grabs your eye as the
surroundings are
completely blacked out.
The words “Best” and
“Highway To Hell” are all
bigger and in a different
colour font. This makes these
buzzwords stand out more
and makes the reader more
curious.
5. Existing Product Strip of extra information
about the magazineFree giveaways gets the audiences
attention because its in a red box
next to blue text. This grabs
peoples attention as it is directly
below the magazines title
Main image that takes
up the whole front
cover. He is looking
directly at the
audience
Other pieces of information
fills in otherwise empty space,
but doesn’t make the
magazine look cluttered
The plus section gives the reader
more information about the
other bands featured in this
magazine. It is blue witch is the
main colour theme on the cover,
witch makes this section stand
out even though its not the main
story
Small cover lines are red so
they stand out in-between the
blue title and the blue t shirt
The magazine is well knows,
so the title is covered, witch
doesn’t matter because the
y know they already have a
loyal audience
The main story is over the band
members, the font fits the bands
style and is one of the first thing
the reader sees when looking at
the front cover for the first time.
Buzzwords grab the
readers attention
Barcode has information
about the magazine, such as
price and the website

22. Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the
strengths and weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
• Overall I think I conducted product research very well. I looked into all sorts of magazines
that are similar to the one I wish to create, and even ones with similar audiences. A
strength of this research method would be the fact that its easy to see similar products
and get ideas from them and make them your own. A weakness would be that if your not
exactly sure what you want your product to be then you will have trouble finding similar
products.
– Questionnaires
• I think that overall I conducted the questionnaires well. I got over 10 people to take my
survey. The answers I got back really helped me figure out what people like and how they
like a magazine to be laid out. A strength of this method would be you are able to ask
specific questions and figure out what a typical audience likes. A weakness would be if
your not sure how to word questions properly then the people taking the survey might
take your question a different way.
– Interviews
I liked the interviews because you are able to ask people one on one and see what one specific
person likes. A strength would be you are able to get a clear understanding of what one person would
like. A weakness would be that you do not get full understanding of what the majority of people want.
23. Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
Mainly females aged 13-15 answered my survey. Overall the response was positive from everyone. I
gathered that mainly people like a traditional style of magazine with free content and interviews. To
appeal to this audience I will advertise free posters and interviews inside.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
I distributed my survey over Facebook. I got my Facebook friends to take the survey. I have no clue who took it,
it could be anyone on my friends list. An advantage of this would be that the survey is not bias because I didn’t
have any input when asking people to take the survey. A disadvantage would be since I don’t know who is
taking it some people could put stupid things and not take the survey seriously.
