This document analyzes magazine covers to identify effective design features that could be used for a student's own magazine cover. It discusses several magazines' use of large, distinct mastheads; clear main images related to the main article; clean, fitting color schemes; and large, clear anchorages that clearly convey the magazine's contents. The conclusion notes the importance of a large masthead, limiting excess information on the cover, and ensuring the main image is immediately clear to attract readers.

2. Introduction
• This task will consist of me analysing various magazine
covers for inspiration for creating my own magazine
cover. I shall identify the key features that make each
magazine effective so that I may replicate them in my own
production.

3. The main aspect of this
magazine cover is the large
and distinct masthead which
is instantly recognisable to
the reader since it is very
large and distinct and is in a
bold colour of red. This
colour is also made to fit in
with the frame of the
magazine as to make the
cover fit together.
Another key feature is the
large close-up anchorage of
Obama this is a very clear
image on what the main
article of the magazine is
going to be based on and so
is effective in not over-doing
information on the cover.

4. This magazine noticeably
includes very clean and dark
colours. The most noticeable of
which are the White, Blue and
Black’s which are all colours
which fit nicely together when
in a visual format. The fact the
blue colour is the same as that
of Daniel Craig’s eyes makes
the main anchorage and the
style of the magazine link
together and therefore further
make the colours more
effective.
Again the main anchorage is
very large and distinct and
provides the reader with a clear
insight into the contents of the
magazine.

5. This magazine uses a
larger image as the main
anchorage this contrasts
from the other two covers.
As well as this the image
is made to be black and
white which makes the
cover as a whole more
clean and simple since
there is not a flood of
colour. I like this a lot
since it makes the
magazine cover more
sleek and to the point and
therefore could be a
technique I apply when
creating my own poster.

6. Conclusion
• Through looking at these several magazine covers I have
managed to take away some inspiration for features
which I may include within my own magazine. The most
noticeable feature is the large masthead throughout these
covers. Magazine covers are designed to be to-the-point
so that not too much information is shown on the cover to
deter audiences away and so I shall have to ensure I
follow this convention when creating my own production.
Lastly the main anchorage is always very clear as to what
it is so that passers by know the contents of the magazine
straight away.
