The word prison traces its origin to the Old French word "prisoun,"
which means to captivity or imprisonment. The Old French was a mix
of Celtics and Greco-Romans. Therefore, a prison is a facility where
captured criminals are held as punishment or where suspects are held
while awaiting their trial. The earliest records of prisons date back to
1000BC, in the early historical civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt.
These early prisons were mostly detention centers built as
underground dungeons.
Ch 1:INTRODUCTION
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJEC
1.3.1 General Objective
The main objective of the project is to develop an
architectural design of Central prison in Burao City.
1.3.2 Specific Objectives
The following are the Specific Objectives of the study:
To collect and analyze data that will help in determining the
user and the building requirement of the prison facility.
To design a model of the prison building.
To assess the cause of poor prisons structure in Burao.
To evaluate the cost required for the building of prison.
. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
• Due to the fact that there are laws breakers in Burao City and Somaliland at
large, there is need of having better and high quality prison buildings.
These buildings need to have all the modern facilities that will make them a
better correction environment, something which many of the current
prison buildings are still lacking. Because of the above stated factors and
other reasons, it thus provided the project developers with the motive to
go ahead to develop this prison facility architectural design.
.
 Main project is central prison building.
Area of the project is 100m*60m.
 Floors of project is G+1
Location of the project is center of Burao Togdher Somaliland.
