With more than 150 years of engineering excellence,
the School of Engineering is developing tomorrow’s
engineering leaders.
Students in the School of Engineering work closely
with expert faculty in small classes, learning the
fundamentals of engineering while exploring its
many practical applications. Experiential learning
opportunities, such as senior projects, cooperative
education, and internships offer students other
ways to learn through Widener’s many
community and industry partnerships.
Engineering is about testing ideas and putting them
to work.To help students get a jump-start on their
careers, we offer a cooperative education program

Marriott Dining Room
In recognition of the excellence of Widener’s
hospitality program, the J. Willard and Alice S.
Marriott Foundation funded the Marriott Dining
Room, an on-campus training restaurant with a
fully equipped kitchen and state-of-the-art dining
area. Each week, students host a lunch and/or
dinner and learn everything from purchasing and
handling the right materials, creating the menu,
serving the guests, and supporting functions.

Management
In terms of the curriculum of the undergraduate
program, it’s very comprehensive. Students can
do everything from work in a hotel, to a restaurant,
a country club, a theme park, a cruise ship and so
on. We give students broad exposure to service
management skills and strong leadership skills.

Home to the Humanities, Social Science, and Science
divisions, the College of Arts  Sciences offers major
courses of study for those interested in the liberal arts.
The College of Arts  Sciences is the foundation
of Widener University, housing more than 30
fields of study in the liberal arts.
Rooted in a strong liberal arts tradition, the College
of Arts  Sciences encourages you to explore

The Widener University International Study Center
(ISC) is a dedicated facility for ambitious, career-minded
international students.
The ISC provides customized English language
support. Academic courses, taught by Widener’s
distinguished faculty, give you the credits you need
to advance your academic career.
Programs at the ISC are delivered by Study Group
in partnership with Widener University.The ISC
delivers the English for Academic Purposes
courses and programs, and Widener University
delivers the academic, credit-bearing courses.

Available Programs
InternationalYear One (IY1)
This program provides undergraduate students
with four pathways in business, engineering and
sciences, hospitality, and social sciences to enter
their chosen bachelor’s degree programs.
Pre-Master’s Program (PMP)
This program offers courses in English language,
GRE/GMAT preparation, and graduate research
and study skills. In addition, students will be
able to take two graduate courses in their fields,
which will save them both time and tuition toward
completing their Master’s degrees.
3-Year Higher Education Institution
Pre-Master’s Program
This program is especially designed for students
who aspire to pursue a Master’s degree but have
only three years of higher education qualifications,
including Chinese Dazhuan students, Indian Section
II university/ordinary 3-year bachelor degree holders,
and 3-year associate degree holders from
reputable higher education institutions in other
countries.This unique Pre-Master’s Program allows
students to take Widener undergraduate courses
so that when they complete the program, they will
be fully prepared to enter a Master’s program in
business, engineering, or hospitality at Widener.

What is an ISC Pathway Program?
Do I study academic courses?
Yes.You will take specialized academic courses
that fully prepare you to enter your degree program.
There are academic credit courses for both IY1
and PMP students.
Do I get academic credits for my degree?
Both IY1 students and PMP students, excluding
3-year HEI PMP students, take credit-bearing
courses in their chosen fields and earning 19-31
undergraduate credits (IY1) or 3-6 graduate credits
(PMP) toward their degrees. 3-year HEI PMP
students whose previous higher education
included three years of study will spend their
PMP semesters taking undergraduate courses,
which will prepare them for graduate studies,
but do not offer graduate degree credits.
Am I taught by university faculty?
Yes. The ISC offers a blended model with classes
taught by both ISC staff and university faculty.
Do I take courses with American students?
In most cases, IY1, regular PMP, and 3-Year HEI
PMP students will be taking cohort classes with
other international students to receive close
attention and academic support while enrolled at
the ISC. However, depending on your major and
English level, there is a chance that you will take
a Widener class with American students while
enrolled at the ISC. After completing your ISC
program, you will take Widener courses with
American students for years 2-4 of your
undergraduate degree, or during your
Master’s degree.
Do I get extra academic support and learn
study skills?
Yes. The ISC provides additional support to help
you succeed academically through one-on-one
meetings with an advisor, and access to the
tutoring and writing centers.
Do I get extra personal help to adjust to living
in America?
Yes.The ISC welcomes you from the day you
arrive on campus, and offers support to help you
adapt to being an active member of the Widener
community and living in America.
For undergraduate studies after the ISC,
do I continue into the second year of my
degree program?
Upon completion of the ISC, you will move
into the second year of your degree program
(1-semester IY1 students will enter their second
semester of a degree program).
As an undergraduate student, will I graduate
in 4 years?
Depending on your program type, you will spend
4-16 months at the ISC and then the remaining
three years (3.5 years for 1-semester students) of
your 4-year degree program completely integrated
into your degree program. Most undergraduate
students spend eight months at the ISC.

International Year One helps international students adapt to
the American college experience offered at Widener University.
The InternationalYear One (IY1) program
strengthens students’ English language skills
and provides academic credits towards an
undergraduate degree.
Delivered in the four pathways of business,
engineering and sciences, social sciences,
and hospitality, the IY1 program offers a blended
curriculum of both English language courses
and academic courses, so that the students earn
valuable credits toward their Bachelor’s degree
while improving their English.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
The EAP is for international students who want to
study atWidener University but have intermediate
English. Students develop the 4 key language
skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing,
in the context of degree level studies.
This degree preparation program provides
1 semester of intensive English language
instruction. On completion, students are ready
to join the 3-semester IY1.

Year One
I learned a lot by writing and revising
assignments. For example, I learned
how to write an essay, how to structure
it, how to order the elements to make
my point stronger. My (writing) professor
supported me all the time. She said
I can do it, and I did it!

Pre-Master’s Program (PMP) is a preparation program
for graduate studies at Widener University.
The PMP is designed for international students
who have finished a four-year undergraduate
degree and meet the academic entry requirements
for the university’s graduate programs, but need
additional development of English language,
study skills, and/or academic background.
The PMP provides a 1-2 semester transitional
curriculum of intensive English for academic
purposes and training for GMAT/GRE test (business
and engineering students only). In addition, students
will take two Master’s-level courses and earn up
to 6 credits toward their degree.

We offer a specialist Higher Education Institution Pre-Master’s
Program (HEI PMP) for students holding a three-year
undergraduate degree from outside of the United States.
Students in the HEI PMP program will spend three
semesters improving their English language skills,
learning about American culture and college life,
and taking up to 10 academic courses which will
ensure they are at the same academic level as
a Widener undergraduate degree holder.
This unique Pre-Master’s Program allows students
to take Widener undergraduate courses so that
when they complete the program, they will be
fully prepared to enter a Master’s program in
business, engineering, or hospitality at Widener.

Residence Halls
Set in the beautifully landscaped grounds of a
former military college, our 24 residence halls are
just a short walk from the academic buildings,
library, and other campus resources. Room types
vary from double occupancy to apartment-style
suites throughout the campus.
Students will have to share a room with another
student, who may be of a different nationality.
The residence halls are furnished with a twin
size bed, wardrobe, desk and chair that you can
customize with your own bedding and keepsakes.
Please keep in mind that undergraduate and
graduate student housing are in the same buildings.
All undergraduate students are required to live on
campus until their senior year. Students enrolled
in the IY1 program will be instructed to complete
a housing application after they have confirmed
their enrollment. On-campus graduate housing
is an option only obtainable by special request
and based on availability.
Off-campus Housing for Graduate Students
Most graduate students live off campus.You can
book your off-campus housing on your own.
The majority of ISC graduate students stay with
JCK Homes Inc., a local provider of student housing.
Most JCK houses are within a few blocks of
Widener’s campus. More information about JCK

Secure Building Access
All student residence halls are locked and
monitored 24 hours a day and are only accessible
to students through an electronic card access
control system. Campus buildings and facilities are
only accessible after hours by the electronic card
system, or by checking in with campus security.
Campus Dining
Our campus has a wide selection of dining options.
The Pride Café serves food in an all-you-can-eat
buffet style, and the MacMorland Commons
Food Court has something to suit every taste,
including SUBWAY®
and Burger Studio.There is
also an Einstein Bros Bagels and Moe’s Southwest
Grill on campus.
Meal plans are available and range in price from
about $500 to about $3,000 per semester.
Students living on campus can take advantage
of the Gold Unlimited meal plan which includes
unlimited meals, plus vouchers to spend at
on-campus dining facilities. Students living off
campus can choose from eight meal plans.

Academic courses, taught by Widener’s distinguished faculty, give you the credits you need to advance your academic career. Both IY1 students and PMP students, excluding 3-year HEI PMP students, take credit-bearing courses in their chosen fields and earning 19-31 undergraduate credits (IY1) or 3-6 graduate credits (PMP) toward their degrees. 3-year HEI PMP students whose previous higher education included three years of study will spend their PMP semesters taking undergraduate courses, which will prepare them for graduate studies, but do not offer graduate degree credits. Am I taught by university faculty? Yes. The ISC offers a blended model with classes taught by both ISC staff and university faculty. Do I take courses with American students? In most cases, IY1, regular PMP, and 3-Year HEI PMP students will be taking cohort classes with other international students to receive close attention and academic support while enrolled at the ISC. However, depending on your major and English level, there is a chance that you will take a Widener class with American students while enrolled at the ISC. After completing your ISC program, you will take Widener courses with American students for years 2-4 of your undergraduate degree, or during your Master’s degree. Do I get extra academic support and learn study skills? Yes. The ISC provides additional support to help you succeed academically through one-on-one meetings with an advisor, and access to the tutoring and writing centers. Do I get extra personal help to adjust to living in America? Yes.The ISC welcomes you from the day you arrive on campus, and offers support to help you adapt to being an active member of the Widener community and living in America. For undergraduate studies after the ISC, do I continue into the second year of my degree program? Upon completion of the ISC, you will move into the second year of your degree program (1-semester IY1 students will enter their second semester of a degree program). As an undergraduate student, will I graduate in 4 years? Depending on your program type, you will spend 4-16 months at the ISC and then the remaining three years (3.5 years for 1-semester students) of your 4-year degree program completely integrated into your degree program. The InternationalYear One (IY1) program strengthens students’ English language skills and provides academic credits towards an undergraduate degree. Delivered in the four pathways of business, engineering and sciences, social sciences, and hospitality, the IY1 program offers a blended curriculum of both English language courses and academic courses, so that the students earn valuable credits toward their Bachelor’s degree while improving their English. English for Academic Purposes (EAP) The EAP is for international students who want to study atWidener University but have intermediate English. Students develop the 4 key language skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing, in the context of degree level studies. This degree preparation program provides 1 semester of intensive English language instruction. On completion, students are ready to join the 3-semester IY1. International Year One I learned a lot by writing and revising assignments. For example, I learned how to write an essay, how to structure it, how to order the elements to make my point stronger.   • 20. Pre-Master’s Program (PMP) is a preparation program for graduate studies at Widener University. The PMP is designed for international students who have finished a four-year undergraduate degree and meet the academic entry requirements for the university’s graduate programs, but need additional development of English language, study skills, and/or academic background. The PMP provides a 1-2 semester transitional curriculum of intensive English for academic purposes and training for GMAT/GRE test (business and engineering students only). In addition, students will take two Master’s-level courses and earn up to 6 credits toward their degree. Residence Halls Set in the beautifully landscaped grounds of a former military college, our 24 residence halls are just a short walk from the academic buildings, library, and other campus resources. Room types vary from double occupancy to apartment-style suites throughout the campus. Students will have to share a room with another student, who may be of a different nationality. The residence halls are furnished with a twin size bed, wardrobe, desk and chair that you can customize with your own bedding and keepsakes. Please keep in mind that undergraduate and graduate student housing are in the same buildings. All undergraduate students are required to live on campus until their senior year. Students enrolled in the IY1 program will be instructed to complete a housing application after they have confirmed their enrollment. On-campus graduate housing is an option only obtainable by special request and based on availability.
