  1. 1. B2 | Friday, March 5, 2010 Kitsap Sun kitsapsun.com Seasoned Boys, Fresh-Faced Girls The Kitsap Sun’s Super Six Story Nathan Joyce n Photos Kitsap Sun Staff T he Kitsap Sun’s Super Six, comprised of the best basketball players around West Sound, have an interesting dichotomy this year. Most of the boys are seniors and are moving on. Most of the girls are underclassmen and could be back next year. It was a tough basketball season around West Sound. Most teams failed to make deep postseason runs, but the players on this page stood out among their competitors. Jarell Flora Bremerton | 6-foot-2 | Forward | Senior The Olympic League MVP and Seattle U. commit led West Sound in scoring (23.8) and rebounding (11.7) and was the best player on West Sound’s best team. He also had 3.5 assists and 3.1 steals. Will DiIorio Bainbridge | 6-foot-5 | Guard | Senior The Metro League MVP averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals The versatile player hasn’t decided where he’ll play college basketball at, but Northwest Nazarene has offered a scholarship. Brett Skogstad North Mason | 6-foot | Guard | Senior The sharp-shooting Skogstad makes this list for the third straight time. A first-team All-Olympic League guard who averaged 18 points per game. He is No. 7 on the West Sound career scoring list. John Fullington North Mason | 6-foot-7 | Center | Senior One of just three players to earn a spot on the all-area football and basketball team, the massive Fullington, who will play football at Washington State, averaged 16.3 points and 10.4 rebounds, earning All-Olympic honors. Larry Dixon Olympic | 5-foot-10 | Guard | Senior Another player to earn all-area honors in football and hoops. West Sound’s career rushing leader, who is headed to Army, earned All-Olympic League honors after averaging 19.2 points per game. Zane Ravenholt Kingston | 6-foot-3 | Forward | Junior A key player for the Bucs, who went from a one-win travesty to the district playoffs, he earned All-Olympic League honors after averaging 16.6 points and 8.5 rebounds. Coach: Blake Conley Kingston | First year | 13-9 Conley took a team that won only one game in its first two years to a team that was the top Class 2A team in the league and into the dis- trict playoffs. Coach: Penny Gienger Kingston | First year | 16-5 Gienger retired last year as Bain- bridge’s career wins leader, but when her hometown Bucs need helps, she guided them to the top finish among Class 2A teams in the league. Jessica Madison Port Angeles | 5-foot-9 | Guard | Junior Madison won her second straight Olympic League MVP and second spot on this team after averaging 23.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.4 steals. She is already Port Angeles’s all-time leading scorer. Sophia Baetz Kingston | 5-foot-7 | Guard | Junior Another All-Olympic League selection and another Super Six selection — she’s done both twice — for the Bucs’ prolific scorer. She averaged 20.5 points and 2.7 steals per game. Kelsey Callaghan South Kitsap | 5-foot-3 | Guard | Junior The diminutive point guard becomes the first father-daughter combo in Super Six history (John coaches the SK boys). The Narrows League Bridge Division MVP averaged 5.0 assists per game. Breyenne Mosey Crosspoint | 6-foot-1 | Post | Junior The rebounding machine seemed to have eight rebounds before she walked on the court. She averaged 16.4 points and 14.9 rebounds. Krista Stabler Central Kitsap | 5-foot-6 | Guard | Sophomore The energetic Stabler burst on the scene and earned All-Narrows League Bridge Division first-team honors after averaging 17.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.9 steals for the Cougars. Jalen Carpenter Bremerton | 6-foot-2 | Post | Sophomore One of West Sound’s top young players, Carpenter earned All-Olympic League honors after averaging 14.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.
