Editor's Notes
Change the way students behave in learning spaces by giving them positive messages about the educationally beneficial ways they can use their own technology to help with their studies. Table Top (proximity) Lesson Menus could be used to allow students to access relevant resources for your lesson that you know will help them.
By combining the use of QR codes and NFC tages with re-direct sites such as p-qr, you can create high quality re-useable resources and move away from printing 30, 50 or 100 hanouts each time. In this presentation, I use an eHandout created in Google Docs. Everything is updatable and re-useable, .. It saves me time !!

Wattpad is a FREE simple eBook creation tool available for viewing on the web and every smart phone platform. It provides the opportunity to give your students your entire set of course notes, lesson notes.. Or indeed the entire set of notes for this presentation to carry around on your phone in your own eBook Library. For a tutor, it only requires the ability to CUT and PASTE text from a Word document into Wattpad. The disadvantage is that the content is open to the public and the eBook will only work with simple text formatting. But hey… its free, its simple and it works!
To find the notes for this presentation, simply use Wattpad on your smart phone or on the web and search for the Tag I have used for the notes that accompany this presentation, ALTC2011

Re-useable ‘Re-direct’ sites such as p-qr .. Open up all sorts of possibilities for making better use of the very nicely printed QR Codes and NFC Tags you might produce. That is why the Table Lesson Menus shown earlier can be re-used and updated as the course and lesson change. http://p-qr.com
Fantastic Remote eAssessment solution. Install the Teacher App on one phone and have your students install the Student App on theirs. When both are running, you will be able to control the screen that they see appearing on their phone to get them to answer either ad-hoc or pre-set quizzees. All the results and numbers of students in your virtual classroom are viewable on your own mobile phone. Available for Android and iPhone presently. Search for the apps in the appropriate market place or view the website online. http://www.socrative.com/
A fantastic site that allows a tutor to create Flashcards.. For FREE and make them available for students to view on their own smart phone, catering for all the main mobile phone platforms and a range of Flashcard apps. And if a student does not have access to a smart phone, they can view the interactive content directly from the main http://www.studystack.com website.
Using a FREE Picture annotation app such as PicSay allows you to take pictures and comment directly on to the photograph for sharing or uploading to web2. This is a great way to take some forms of notes at a conference or field trip and excellent for students to capture evidence of what they are doing, both in the classroom, on work placements, on field trips etc and share immediately with the tutor via email from their phone for comments back. – Just ideas.
EverNote.. Great Cloud Based word proceessing and media capturing tool that allows you to take notes on your phone and have them immediately available on your desktop … whereever that happens to be. And, vice versa.
