Fedora Modularity is a project building a Modular Linux OS with software in multiple versions and on independent lifecycles. The talk explains the main problems of traditional Linux distributions; shows how we build RPM packages and Linux Containers from the same source; and how users can deploy the artifacts on various platforms. Adam Samalik presented this talk at the DORS/CLUC open source software conference in Zagreb.

3. Problem 1: Multiple versions
stable database --> CentOS
cutting-edge runtime --> Fedora
both --> ?!?!
Containers might be the answer, but not
everything runs in a container!

4. Problem 2: SW vs. HW
stable database --> CentOS
stable database + very new HW --> ?!?!
Old Kernel might not run on a very new
hardware. And distributions update as a
whole.
