- L’ideologia nazista paragonava gli Ebrei alla peste e, come la peste, essi dovevano essere sterminati e rimossi dalla società. La “Soluzione Finale” della questione ebraica fu presentata durante la Conferenza di Wannsee nel 1942. Lo sterminio di tutti gli Ebrei.
- Campi di concentramento e di sterminio
- La Shoah, o Olocausto, indica il periodo che va dal 30 gennaio 1933, quando Hitler divenne cancelliere, all’8 maggio 1945, data della fine della guerra in Europa. Il totale delle vittime dell’odio nazista raggiunge e supera i dieci milioni. Il 27 gennaio, Giornata della Memoria, è stato scelto per ricordare questa tragedia: la data è in relazione al 27 gennaio 1945 quando le truppe dell’Armata Rossa liberarono i pochi superstiti ad Auschwitz.
- La "Soluzione Finale", venne concepita da Hitler, il quale immaginava tutta la storia della terra come una lotta fra le razze, tra le quali avrebbe poi dovuto vincere la "razza ariana". Secondo la sua ottica, il popolo ebreo era un ostacolo per il dominio tedesco.
- La decisione di deportare tutto il popolo nei campi di concentramento cominciò ad attuarsi nella "Notte dei Cristalli", chiamata così per i vetri rotti dei negozi ebrei. Tra i campi di sterminio più importanti ricordiamo: Dachau, il primo a essere costruito, Auschwitz, Mauthausen, Birkenau, Monowitz, Ravensbruck, un campo femminile.
- Auschwitz è probabilmente il campo di concentramento più famoso e dove la crudeltà ha raggiunto i livelli più alti; potrebbe essere considerato «l’Inferno». All’entrata del campo, sormontava il cancello una scritta: "ARBEIT MACHT FREI" il lavoro rende liberi. Qui gli uomini diventavano solo degli oggetti, dei pezzi, dei numeri, il cui compito era solo quello di lavorare.

- Heinrich Luitpold Himmler fu la seconda carica più potente della Germania nazista in qualità di soprintendente dei campi di concentramento e di sterminio e delle famigerate Einsatzgruppen, le unità operative delle SS. Fu un “architetto” della “Soluzione Finale”. Coordinò l’assassinio di milioni di Ebrei, di circa mezzo milione di zingari, di molti prigionieri di guerra nonché di circa tre milioni di Polacchi, comunisti e altri gruppi di persone che i nazisti, “semplicemente”, ritenevano indegni di vivere.
- Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels, capo dell’unità di propaganda del partito nazista, in seguito ministro per la propaganda, fu designato dallo stesso Hitler come suo successore in qualità di Cancelliere della Germania. Uno dei suoi primi atti fu il rogo dei libri considerati avversi al nazismo. Riuscì a ottennere il pressochè completo controllo di ogni informazione in Germania.
- Reinhard Tristan Eugen Heydrich, il boia, fu capo della polizia e del servizio di sicurezza del Reich. Nel 1938, in qualità di capo dell’Ufficio Centrale per l’Emigrazione degli Ebrei, lavorò instancabilmente sia per affermare il predominio delle SS sulla linea politica da tenere per gli Ebrei che per coordinare le varie azioni per la Soluzione Finale. Il 20 gennaio del 1942, infatti, Heydrich tenne a Wannsee la tristemente famosa conferenza nella quale venne pianificata la cosiddetta "Soluzione finale della questione ebraica"
- Karl Adolf Eichmann, ufficiale delle SS, ebbe grande ruolo nell’annientamento degli Ebrei europei. Nel 1935 divenne uno dei pianificatori ed esecutori principali della politica antigiudaica da parte delle SS . Eichmann partecipò alle discussioni iniziali sulla soluzione finale. Dietro ordine di Heydrich organizzò la conferenza di Wannsee. Una volta che la Soluzione Finale fu lanciata, l’ufficio di Eichmann emise gli ordini per dove e quando dovevano avvenire le deportazioni.
- Hermann Göring, comandante delle forze aeree della Germania, leader politico e guida importante del partito nazista, fu anche designato come uno dei successori di Hitler. Fu lui, il 31 luglio 1941, ad impartire a Reinhard Heydrich, capo del servizio di sicurezza delle SS, per conto di Hitler, l'ordine di preparare una "soluzione finale al problema ebraico".
