OBJECTIVES:-
To improve the quality of life.
To overcome the future crisis of food.
For easy marketing and distribution tasks.
Increasing food consistency.
Preservation of food for longer use.
Removing toxins and pathogens from the food.
Increasing seasonal availability of many foods
To delicate perishable foods.
FOOD, FOOD TECHNOLOGY &
FOOD
Food is anything that
nourishes our body.
Major nutrients:
Carbohydrates, Fats,
Proteins, Vitamins and
Minerals.
Food source: Plants and
Animals.
Main function of food is
to provide energy,
maintain life and
stimulate growth.
FOOD, FOOD TECHNOLOGY &
EMERGENCY
-Science dealing with the study
of food and its products. Apart
from that it contribute in
maintaining quality, processing,
preservations & many more.
FOOD TECHNOLOGY
FOOD, FOOD TECHNOLOGY &
EMERGENCY
Any actual threat to individual, public health
and security and there by requiring an
immediate action is emergency. It includes
natural calamities (flood & landslides, drought,
earthquake), blockade , war etc.
These causes environment imbalance which
decrease the food production which eventually
causes food emergency.
FOOD, FOOD TECHNOLOGY &
EMERGENCY
Emergenc
y
Any sudden accident or
natural catastrophe that
cause great damage
or loss is called
disaster.

EMERGENCY
FOOD
CRISIS
During emergency it is obvious
that there is loss of food. The
extreme loss of food results in
food crisis and thereby
worsening the scenario.
The major factor responsible
for food crisis includes
inflation, crop failure,
population imbalance, or
government policies.
Food crisis has very bad
impact. It is accompanied by
malnutrition, starvation, Fig: food crisis FOOD, FOOD TECHNOLOGY &

FOOD CRISIS
To overcome the problems of food crisis
government plays an important role. Food
are imported from different countries in the
form of aid. Example of earthquake
A study according to Food And
Agricultural Organization (FAO) said that
about 1.12 million acres of cultivable land
were destroyed in 2013 and that year about
4800 tones of cereals were imported.

EMERGENCY
IMPACT ON FOOD
The impact on various food depends on following things:-
Type of disaster
Place of occurrence
FOOD, FOOD TECHNOLOGY &
EMERGENCY
• Nutrient imbalances
• Pathogenic microorganisms
• Environmental and industrial chemicals
• Pesticides and other chemicals
• Mishandling of food
• Food and feed additives
It has been found that about 76 million cases of food borne
illness are thought to be the result of mishandling of food
by workers
INTERRELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
FOOD, FOOD TECHNOLOGY AND
EMERGENCY
During the condition of emergency it is hard for us
to prepare food for consumption. food technologist
play these condition. The major work done by them
in this condition are by the development of instant,
RTS food. These food not only suitable for
consumption but also provides the required doze of
calories & can be easily transported too. For
example, noodles were produced during 2nd world
war to provide daily diet to the soldiers.
FOOD, FOOD TECHNOLOGY &
EMERGENCY
ADVANTAGES
Maintain food supply
Prevent health hazard
Help to upgrade indigenous food
Awareness among people about food, food

Conclusion
During disaster there is high chances of infection due
to food and waterborne diseases, lack of hygienic food,
etc. But all these problems can be reduced with the help of
biotechnologically processed food and processed water
which eventually lowers the health hazard and thereby
lowers economic expenses of government in heath,
medicine sector . Another thing is that government should
send food technologist along with food aid so that they
could preserve food for long time and hence they helps in
preventing malnutrition i.e. uplift the development of
country.
