This document discusses fractures of the scapula. It notes that scapula fractures are uncommon and usually result from direct violence. The body of the scapula is prone to comminution due to its thinness. There is typically no major displacement of fragments since muscles on both sides of the bone hold it in position. Secondary ossification centers of the scapula including the coracoid, acromion, and inferior angle are also reviewed.
