2. • Introduction of light
• Activity 1: light and their spectrum
• Activity 2: observing diffraction(ripple tank)
• Activity 3: observing interference
• Activity 4: observing iridescence
• Design Project: Fabricating phonetic crystals
• Product Idea: A light reflector that reflects light
from a lamp post to the street.
3. Light is something that makes things visible, Its a
luminous energy that comes from a luminous object
(like the sun). It’s very important to our world and there
would be no life without it. It travels in form of waves,
and they travel in straight lines.
4. Activity 1: Light and their spectrum
Objective: create a spectroscope and try it in
front of different light sources
Results: Seeing 2 colorful rainbow stripes
through the spectroscope.
Conclusion: Spectroscope shows us how
white light is out of 7 colors.
5. Activity 2:Observing diffraction
Objective: Diffraction is the
slight bending of light as it
passes around the edge of an
object through the ripple tank
experiment.
Results: the ripples are wide
near the rod but become
sharper as they move away,
just like how light will diffract the
most when going through a slit
whose width is much greater
than the wavelength of light.
6. Activity 3:Observing interference
Objective: we observed
interference by combining 2
electromagnet waveforms to
form a resultant wave
Results: they form 2
electromagnet waves and
make a resultant wave
7. Activity 4: Observing iridescence
Objective: We observed iridescence
through the cellophane slides
Conclusion: Iridescence surfaces
appear to change color due to the
structure of the object and the change
of the angle of view or the angle of
illumination
8. Design project: Fabricating
photonic crystals
Observation: We observed iridescence by doing this
design project.
Result: solution was crystallized.
9. Final Project:
YHRM Street light reflector
Light streets are expensive and complicated to use in
addition, they use up a lot of electricity so we invented
(YHRM street Light reflector). We chose this project because
we think it will help Qatar in a very efficient way by saving
money, energy and electricity since it will replace half of the
street lights in Qatar.
What’s special about our project
is that its new and promising,
that Qatar can use.
10. Aim of the work (objectives) (البحث )هدف
Our purpose is to save electricity and money furthermore,
what were trying to achieve is that we want our project to
spread around Qatar and support it in many different
ways.
Final Project:
YHRM Street light reflector
11. YHRM Street light reflector
Hypothesis:
We think that our project will be very successful and
helpful to our country, and with the help of Al-bairaq
workshops and the science background and the
researches related to our project, it will spread all
around Qatar and will soon be very popular, and
people will invest in our project.
12. YHRM Street light reflector
Methods and Materials
Our method used to perform our project idea is the
reflection of light, where we place the SLR between
every two lamp posts then the light from both lamps
reflect on the light reflector causing it to glow in both
opposite sides ,so we use half of the amount of lamp
posts needed.
13. Reflector
We are going to use a plastic reflector to reflect the
light from the lamp post onto the street. We chose
plastic because:
1- it is cheap and easy to make, and does not need
electricity, which will save money and electricity.
2- we can recycle plastic like the plastic reflector
safety vest to use it as a reflector, so we also help the
environment in Qatar.
3- Plastic is waterproof so it wont affect the light if
its raining.
14. YHRM Street light reflector
Results:
Our estimated approach brings very high reduction in
energy consumption.
50 % of the total street light usage could be saved.
15. YHRM Street light reflector
Recommendations:
We highly recommend that the YHRM reflectors
could be remodeled in placing the reflectors at
different angles of view point.
These modifications could be used for controlling
light usage in party halls and exhibition halls.
16. Conclusions:
We gained new information about manipulation of
light through our participation in Al-bairaq and we
hope that out project helps Qatar and save a lot of
resources that can be used in other projects or
charities.
